Aiite, a friend of mine got a 93ish DX automatic hatch. It's bone stock, and in immaculate condition, but it won't start. The previous owner broke the timing belt and put a new one on, and after that it wouldn't start. They replaced the ECU on the advice from a local mechanic, but it didn't change anything. Forest got it a few days ago after all this, and changed the timing belt AGAIN to make sure it was on right, and checked the compression. It checked out fine, and I'm pretty positive there aren't any bent valves or anything.

Anyways, the damn thing won't start. It's getting fuel but no spark at all. We changed the plugs, plug wires, distributor, and ecu but it still won't spark. We even took the distributor off my hatch (which is brand new and works FINE), and still got zero spark. I even went so far as to jam a screwdriver into one of the plug wires and hold onto it with one hand and hold onto the valve cover with the other hand, hoping my bad luck would make it spark...but got nothing.

Does anyone have ANY idea? It is NOT the distributor, plug, plug wires, or ECU, so don't say 'change your distributor' or 'check your plugs'.

Help...please?

if it isnt getting spark, it is either the ECU or distributor. try another ECU friend. Check distributor harness for power also.

make sure the intake cam isn't 180* off.... that will cause your dizzy to fire at the wrong time.

Also, check the grounds.. Make sure the head has a good solid ground.

this may sound stupid but, have you try changing the battery and/or starter.

Ive had a similar problem with my hf, and im wondering how you tell the cam isnt 180 off. I lined up the TDC mark on the pulley, up on the cam gear and lined up the dizzy to cylinder one as well. I know my batt is weak so that doesnt help, but still runs bad when its on and its hard to turn by hand.

if it runs it's PROBABLY not 180 off, though I've had V8s start 180 off.

The dizzy can be 180 off from the cam, so that's not always fail-proof.

Take out your #1 plug, on your far right if you're standing in front of your car. turn the motor over by hand(a socket on the crank pully bolt is the best way) as you bring the motor up to TDC and your rotor towards cylinder 1, you should hear it blowing air out of the spark plug hole. if it does, and your rotor is pointing where your #1 wire is, then you're good.

that means your intake and exhaust valves are closed, and you just finished the compression stroke, and the plug should fire for your power stroke.

Thanks for the negative rep. It's not as if it were bad advice.
