installing piston rings

Is there anything special i have to do when i am instlling the piston rings on the p30 pistons?

Make sure the ring landings are clean. Make sure the ring end gap is correct. Make sure that you follow the instructions when they tell you where the ring gaps should be positioned.

how does one go about gapping the rings?

and the ring lands better be clean, i ordered the pistons brand new from hybrid garage 2 weeks ago.

I wasn't sure if they were new or not

To check ring end gap you will each ring from piston 1 into cylinder 1, one at a time. Make sure that the ring is installed level by pushing the piston down on the ring (don't push the ring into the cylinder too far). Use a feeler gauge (the tool you use to measure valve lash) to measure how far apart the ring ends are. Then use a file to widen them if the need it, make sure to debur the edges after filing.

No problem, those are really rough instructions. Do a google search if you want more specific instructions.
