whats the difference between long block and short blocks?, ive been searching and im kind of lost. could use some help

long blocks include the head, pistons oil pan, the only thing not on there is basiaclly a tranny, short block is just the literal block. som people define them a little diff but i think thats basically it.

Almost, but not quite.

Short block is the bottom end of an engine. Block, crank, pistons, rods, and bearings.

Long block is basically a short block with a head on it. No intake manifold, exhaust manifold, distributor.

That's how it's been defined in the car scene I've been in for a while now.
