Ok so i was out for a quick spin in my Ef. I turned on High boost just to have a bit of fun on the way to the gas station and back. A few months back when i had gotten ny car dyno tuned, i was on the way home and noticed my speedo, fuel, turn signal and something else cut out on me, later found out it was a blown fuse. I noticed soon after that my temp gauge would start to spike and change temp readings on a dime.
Well anyways, i figured it was nothin to worry about when my temp gauge was gettin higher then normal temp, but i still drove easy just to be safe. When it wasnt really going down i finally made it home and decided to leave the car on the Accessary postition to let the fan run. Then i noticed my fan wasnt running like it normally does.. I have a Mishimoto Rad and Rad fan, but maybe its my relay? maybe its my water pump? Where exactly is my fan relay located because im searchin online and cant get a real answer. Please help because i need to make an hour drive next week to have the car inspected and hour back and i cant be stopping every 15min to let it cool. __________________

Standing facing your engine bay, look directly behind your headlight housing on the left. You'll see a ground cluster and a relay. That is the fan relay.

Sorry for double post. If anything you can pull the wires off you temp sensor on the back of the block. Take a piece of wire and jump the two prongs and plug the wires back in. It'll run constantly but it's a nice temporary fix.

I don't have a scanner. I have a Honda published 1991 Civic electrical trouble shooting book and I'm not sure where to find an online one. Anyway, it is right above your oil filter. It has a cone shaped (kinda) rubber guard on it. When you pull that off there will be two wires with white connectors on the end. They are separate. One is green and one is yellow (I forget which is top and bottom). If the relay you have isn't bad your temp sensor is. I temp fixed mine like stated above because of it's position. I'll probably change it out in another 1k when I change my oil again. |

Damn ok. Ill try to figure it out. But wheres the fan switch relay at? Maybe its bad, and positioned a bit more conveniently although honda likes to put shit places your cant reach.

Read post #2? It's super easy. Its right there on the wall next to your battery.. or where your battery should be if you moved it.

That relay has nothing to do with the lights, only the fan. Yeah it's either beige or black rubber covering the relay. You have to peel it back if you want to take it out of the cover.
The numbers on the relay will be one of these two, I forget which. mitsuba rc-2201 mitsuba rz-0062 The internet is your friend. this is the first thing that came up on google. How to Test a Relay Switch | eHow.com |

Well originally i had the fan run on a manual switch. I had my tuner run it to run off my ECU when it gets to a certain temp. But he didnt wire it to the temp sensor on the block because theres nothing plugged in to it, and i cant drive to him because the overheating problem but anyways its been that way from day one.
Come to think of it, ive never really fixed this problem. This motor loves to heat up quick on boost. And every attempt i try fails, been threw 3 thermostats, even ones with low temps, different mixes of antifreeze and water. Brand new radiator and fan. I dont have a clue what it could be __________________

I'd just get a slim "S blade" design aftermarket fan and run it to an accesory switch. They're like 20 bucks at a swap meet. Push a ton of air too (with the door open and my leg on the ground I felt a strong stream of air on my ankle.) I had problems on the Camaro and never figured it out so I went this route and havent had a problem since.
Theres a bunch on eBay right now. Search "S Blade Fan" __________________

In that case just cut the power and ground leads near the fan. properly re-wire them to a switch (solder, shrink wrap, some post of protective covering.) Or it could be the fan itself and you'll find out anyway. Then you can turn it on whenever and not have to worry about all your accessories running when you just need the fan.

There is an ecu controlled switch for the fan even in the 90-91 (idk about 88-89) I wish I had a scanner so I could copy the page in my book. Let me find it, It might explain it in there.

i think thats it! My tuner said he wired it into the ECU to come on a certain temp, and that may be my ticket. Hope you can get some more info out that book for me.

the fan is turned on by the thermo switch,,,it completes the circuit when it gets hot enough. the ecu does nothing

then id have to say redo it like a normal sensor. and then just run a toggle switch. The one in my Camaro was a regular toggle but for my friends fog lights I found a switch that looked like it could have been factory. its not really a huge deal to have it on a switch. I look at it as increased control.
