I have a 2000 JDM B18C (Type R) that I am putting a new timing belt on. I have done many timing belts and have never had this kind of problem.

When I line up my cam gears my TDC mark on the crank pulley is aprox 4-5 degrees to the left (Toward the fron of the car). If I move a tooth on either the cam gears or on the crank it goes way off.

The only expination I can come up with is that the head was decked before I got it. It only had 21k km (13k miles) on it and I doubt it has been cut but who knows? The JDM B18C has higher compression than the USDM so maybe the head is decked from the factory, but again I don't think so as they have different pistons in them which is probobly where the compression comes from.
