What does everyone think of these bikes? I'm talking with some people selling them, and they're within my price range WITHOUT A LOAN. So, here we go:

*GSXR-600 '99 in great condition. It has a new K&N air filter, new rear tire, new chain and sprockets, new chrome wheels, and yoshimura exhaust. $4000

Guy said he'll take off the chrome wheels and put on the original ones. Dunno how well it was taken care of, the seller swears that it was. Bike is euro-spec, and has 20k km on it.


*Yamaha YZF600R '03, barely used 6K miles, stock pipe, full fairing, rain cover, color blue\white, great for long rides for a sport bike, asking price $4300

Soonest I can see it is the 23rd or 24th. Looks really good, and it was taken care of, however the guy was deployed most of the time after he bought it.


I really don't care which one, I'm just looking for reliability. Any thoughts?

That sucks he sold the gsxr, that would be hands down a best buy. I owned a gsxr1000, god I miss that bike. :(
 
I know. I'm really sad now. But I'm going to see the VFR800 tomorrow.
 
Take your time and buy something worth it, not something "just to have a bike", ya know what I mean? :)
 
I almost did that with a new 08 ninja 250. I'm glad I waited the extra 2 weeks.

Honestly, I don't know too much about the r6 or the vfr, wait till Cel gets on here, he'll be more helpful than me.
 
Well, I'm looking more to the VFR, the more I hear about it, the more I like it. I'm going to go see it, and possibly ride it tomorrow.

Cel is well cel. He started riding a bit after me. He just knows the names a bit more of exotic bikes and such.


GSXR was cutting edge, with RAM and such back in the day. R6 is well, super sleek, race ready and really fun. All crotch rockets are race ready. VFR is a bit more bike than the rest, and a couple friends of mine have had them. They're a vtwin so they have more torque than the others, but lack the complete top end grunt you get from the others.
 
the VFR800 has possibly the greatest motor ever placed in a bike frame. The sound alone is enough to get a full-on robot chubby.

The throttle response is TOUCHY. And that's coming from a guy with a ZX12. I was choosing the VFR800 over the ZX12R on purchase day - the reason I backed away from the VFR was because the throttle was so touchy it bit me in the parking lot (Doing a cone exercise, It almost high-sided me when I was too hard on the throttle)

the VFR is also a bigger bike. It's for bigger people, the adult or middle aged rider who has talent on the bar and a gut on the tank. It's still easy to handle, but it's more a street oriented bike than track. I liked my 2 because it appears to be a track bike (Seperate rear seat, lower fairings and cartridge forks) Unlike the other tourers with the integrated seat, taller ride position and classic handlebars.

But the engine is absolutely POETIC.
 
I agree completely with cel. The engine sounds absolutely amazing.
 
OK, now I'm kinda scared.


I don't want to die on a bike, and touchy throttles scare me. If it's so touchy that you didn't want it, and you chose a zx12 INSTEAD. That's not exactly a vote of confidence.

I ended up making really good friends with the owner of the shop. I was on a Suzuki gs500 for a bit, and it felt really tiny, and easy to control, but it was purple/pink. I'm not normally worried about colors like that, but I have to decline buying a pink/purple bike. Sorry.

I got on a '98 CBR600. He said that he really liked that bike, and the only limiting thing to keep that from keeping up with the r6, r1, or some of the 1200cc bikes is the rider. He said that the bike was very good, and it's easy to control.

Most of all, it fit. I got on it, and it just felt good. I got on the VFR, but didn't get to ride it, and it didn't fit so well. the VFR is a little taller, and I dunno if I'd grow into it, but I think I'm going to stick with the CBR. I've always really liked the CBR body style too.

When I get my license, I'll get the CBR, then when the time comes to get a bigger bike, I'll probably get a VFR. Right now the girlie and I are going to get a 125 or a 250 (something under 33.4HP) just to mess around with until january, when we go back to maryland to get a full motorcycle license.


Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go help my dad deal with his car's broken window, and stolen navigation system.
 
Thats terrible... a couple weeks ago, someone busted my sisters car window and stole her GPS. Luckily, a neighbor heard it when it happened and called police. They caught them a couple miles away, but with no GPS. :(
 
Well, I live in a nice neighborhood. My neighbors are pissed off that someone did this here.

Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a motion-sensitive light for the very front of the house. I've got them on all corners, and by the front door already, but I guess one more won't hurt. It's really going to piss off the people who walk by my house at night though. Oh well, screw them.


Back OT: I'm getting a CBR600. End of story. The girlie is getting a cbr125r. We went to the honda dealership in her town, and looked in the windows and around the lot. She saw it, and fell in love. She also fell in love with the new Type R civic too, but we won't get into that in the motorcycle section. (She flat out said "wow, that's like a sports car in a civic body, I like it." and then "And you can afford it too... Just we'd have to change out the red H-emblems, I don't like them." One more reason I'm in love with this girl.)

Also, what I said about the VFR needs to prefaced with something : the VFR IS easier to live with than the ZX12R. But last year I was too newb to know what the fuck I was thinking about. BOTH bikes take a lot of adaptation, solid judgement and finesse. That kind of finesse is really tough to conjure up being a newb.

With all bike decisions, regardless of what anyone says, go with your heart. If the CBR makes your heart race, then GET THE CBR. Regardless of anyone's horseshit (Like mine, I think the seat is completely intolerable). Go with whatever keeps you with the activity. Even it's 50cc scooters.
 
Yeah, I was planning on the CBR. It makes me feel good just to sit on it stationary. I'm kinda scared to get that bike, because everyone I've talked to tells me how powerful it is.


But this all couldn't have come at a worse time, because now I get to replace my civic's clutch. (I drive about 100 miles a day just to get to work and back.) Not a lot of fun. I guess the bike is on hold for a while, again.
 
If the weather is good, fuck the clutch.

I got my 250 after my civic was stolen. Still haven't bought a car.
 
I wish I had one right now. It'd certainly be cheaper. oh well.
