well as the title states im asking for your opinion on wether i should sleeve my block or not? i will be running a turbo probly a t3-t04e. i want to push 300 to even possibly 400hp out of this when im done. i will be running a stock gsr block with cp 9:1 pistons and eagle rods. with arp head studs. i was wondering with that amount of hp with i be ok and just save my self the money by getting a block guard? or should i put the money out and just have it done. i dont think ill be doing much higher than that for numbers due to i want a streetable car as well and my buddy with 430hp to the wheels can barely hold traction when he wants to. let me know what u think i was gonna be sleeving it but if i dont ill be saving myself some serious money. thanks for ur input

300 on a good tune stock sleeves will be fine, altough if you do go higher you really should sleeve it, but 300 youll be fine.

alright thanks guys i really didnt wanna have to spend all that money on sleeving a block that in the end i really didnt have to. that saves me about a grand.... should i use a block guard though???

Block guards restrict the flow of coolant around the part of the cylinders where you need it the most. Block guards are welded in at the top of the sleeves, at the same point where combustion is taking place; hence where your engine is the hottest.

What about over the long term? Would the sleeving increase the lifespan of the engine even if it is not "needed?"

Not really increase lifespan, but your making a weaker part stronger.

I should have said I was thinking about running 6-8psi daily. I was maybe thinking sleeve was overkill, but maybe it would pay off in the long run.

should be fine. When I think of sleeving a block, I get in to trouble. I'm one of those types that says "well while the block is out and going to the shop I might as well upgrad the ...." then it starts to get expensive.

i would sleeve it you gotta figure your spending extra money now but in the LONGRUN you will be saving 300 hp you will lose copresion in a short amount of time and think about a turbo cam or yhe lobe will jus spin over the valve not opening properly on both ends

I would find an oem girdle from a gsr/itr engine and use that. Not a big fan of block guards, decent for NA setups, but for high boost setups its not recommended.

alright thanks for all the help guys im gonna sleeve it after all.... just incase i do want more down the road i wont have to rip the block out and do that all over again lol

Well at least you're from Lowell...

I met this one dude who said he was from boston and when I pressed the issue he said he was from Springfield. That's like what an hours ride? I miss boston. I've been exiled to maine til 2010...

If you're going to offer advice, it'd be a really good idea to make it comprehensible.

Yeah, what the hell are you trying to say?
