Hey im a nuub to the hondaswap.com and am curious on what would be the best swap for my 1994 honda del sol. I have a SOHC b16 engine, w/ a greddy turbo charger on my baby now. It was cool for when i was in h.s. but now im working and saving a lot of money, and looking for bigger better faster engine. Im not so concern on cost for the swap, b/c i can save up for everything, and willing to put time into my car.

You should just keep the turbocharged SOHC B16 in it, since its so rare ive never even heard of it.

I'd go with the triple overhead cam G-series if I were you. Best engines Honda makes in my opinion...

Ok no sohc b16 my engine block though says 1.6 litres sohc. I just assumed that it was a b series motor. i want a bigger engine though should i go b series then w/ the b18 or should i go k series

Has there ever been a single-cam B-series motor? The answer is no.

If you can decipher that your engine is a 1.6-liter from the code stamped on the block, then you should also be able to see the "D" stamped next to those numbers indicating that it's a D-series.

I'm guessing you bought the car with the turbo kit on it already? Either that, or you pay a shop to take care of every single aspect of your car?

And yes, a B18 or K-series engine would be a nice upgrade, but neither of them will put out more power than the turbo D you have now, at least not in stock form anyway. The K-series might be close, but the B18, no.

whoops sorry ur rite idk what i was thinking. i just assumed it was a b series motor. my bad. it is a 1.6 liter engine sohc vtec. idk what series though. Should i go w/ a b series motor, or should i go for the gusto and get the k series motor. like i said im a nuub w/ everything.

yeah i bought the car w/ everything on it b/c at the time i didn't want to take the time to do everything, b/c i had just spent the previous years workin on my bros car, turbocharging his saturn working on his body kit.

So k series is the way to go. Now should i get a k20 or would a k24 be better. don't worry whichever engine will be boosted b/c i LOVE boost its amazing. but i just want an all around better engine. in which im going to build the engine also and not just boost it.

stick with a b series, h22 are very heavy motors and will require upgrading the suspension with a lot harder spring, the h22 will also sit farther towards the front of the engine bay then a b series, and will throwing the weight distribution off even farther causing a lot of understeer, the only way to fix that however is to srenghten the rigidity of the frame, which honestly isn't worth the time or money to make the car better at going arround corners. I do however agree with stock98ekcoupe the k-series are way to expensive and are not worth the price. the k series motor will also not alow you to lower the car because the motor itself is so large, and you will come across a lot of clearance issues. Its been done before in del sols but the figures I seen for cost are between 8k and 10k for the complete swap, If you have that kind of money lying around then by all means take on the project if you have some experience in swaps.

since you already have the turbo kit, and a b16 will drop right in (the si's came with them stock), spend 1500-1800 on the swap, buy a b series manifold, and slap the boost kit on that. itll make WAAAY more power than any swap, and be far cheaper and easier

The H22 really isn't that much heavier. Yes, it is heavier and it will weigh down the front end some, but it's nothing that stiffer springs won't fix. Besides, a little extra weight over the front wheels in a FWD application isn't really a bad thing.

As for the K-series swaps, lots of people are putting those in their Civics nowadays. If the clearance issues were that bad nobody would be doing it. The power and tuning potential of those engines must be worth it to the people running them.

And yes, they are expensive, but then again, to build up a B16 to K20A2 or K20Z power levels is going to take bank anyway, so I guess it kind of depends on how you want to go about it...

That's a pretty good option for not a lot of money.

and btw, isnt this thread in the wrong section?

:werd:

Yes i did not know what engine i had. Im a nuub to everything i admitted. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread im a nuub to the website also. I was lookin into a h22 engine and did read a lot about weight problems and suspension, and motor mounts. I also read about an h23 w/ a h22 head. Is that a possibilty? The k series motors that ive seen so far for sale are really not that much more than a b18. Also i did see clearence problems for the k24 engines haven't seen any yet for the k20. idk y but ive seen images where the k24 in a civic hatchback is basically touching the ground. and k20 is fine. I want to get the best for my car. I do care on how much it will cost b/c it just depends on when i can start ordering and how much i have to save up. Is the price that significant to where im just lookin at the wrong sites. Also i want a engine that is going to go well w/ a turbocharger and many upgrades. Ive found a K20a2 for 4k complete change over plus shipping and handling which will be another pretty penny. Is that a good deal. b/c b18 type r 3.9K

The cost of the K20 swap comes down to more than just the price of the engine. You also have to buy an expensive mount kit, custom axles, some kind of engine management (probably K-Pro), plus you'll need to do a bit of hacking and fabricating. That's where the cost adds up. A B-series swap is easier to install and you can use stock Integra or Del Sol mounts, so the overall cost is going to be a lot lower than a K-series swap.

The B18C5 is a nice engine, but if you're going to turbo I'd probably skip it. The compression on that motor is pretty high. It's meant to be an N/A screamer really, not a good base motor for forced induction. I'd go for either a K20, GS-R, or LS if you're looking to boost...

sorry i really don't know which one would be best. I know there are all different types of b18's but which one would u prefer. Should i get theb18 gsr , b18 type r, b18 VTi-R, b18 SiR-G. I think ive narrowed down to a b18 for sure. Unless somebody can change my mind im really liken the b18. If boosting though will be bad for the b18 then i might change my mind really quick. Btw thank u blanco and brutab83 for everything so far. Im a young kid just trying to learn about everything and what will be best for my car.

I'd probably avoid the Type R if you plan on boosting. The GS-R or it's JDM equivalents (SiR-G) are great motors for boosting on. The non-VTEC B18s (LS engines) are decent boost motors as well. How long it will last depends on what kind of shape the motor is in, and how well it's tuned once you apply boost...
