I'm looking for direct bolt on stock muffler choices for my 92 Hatch. I want to have a stock muffler but I would like to have one that flows more air than the current CX muffler.

I had a DC4 integra and I was able to bolt on a Type R muffler which gave it a lot more air flow but because it was a stock muffler, I didn't have any trouble from cops. I'm looking to do the same for my Civic. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the help.

A GS-R or ITR muffler will fit on an EG Civic pretty easily. Also, you could look into a Dynomax or Magnaflow muffler that looks stock, maybe just one with an aluminized finish rather than stainless steel, and then put a tip on it so that it looks decent...

So you tried the ITR one and it didn't work? That's wierd. I know I saw in HondaTuning a while back where a guy was using a GS-R muffler on his GS-R swapped Civic.

Are you looking for something that will completely bolt on? I'm sure a muffler shop could easily (and fairly cheaply) make the ITR muffler work on your car...

Yeah, I had the 2 side by side and they were different sizes. I don't really want an aftermarket muffler cause I don't want a loud or fart-canish sound. I want to see what other EG owners are using?

Right, I understand that. Not all aftermarket mufflers will have that sound though, only ones that are straight-through and don't have much resonating material (or are cheap) will be loud. The one that I mentioned (the Dynomax) aren't "straight-through" designs. They flow more than stock but won't give you that loud, raspy sound, and they essentially look like stock mufflers too.

But anyway, did you read what I said about it being bolt-on? A muffler shop can easily and cheaply make the ITR muffler work with a little hacking and welding. If you want a stock muffler that's straight bolt-on for an EG hatch, an Si muffler is probably your only option...

ok, cool. I might look into Dynamax then. Thanks.

Yep, no problem man. Yeah, they're made by Dynomax and they're called "turbo mufflers." I don't know why. They're not that expensive and you can get them at most parts stores...

a muffler isnt gonna do shit except make it sound different.. your stock exhaust piping is whats restricting you.. get an ITR/GSR muffler and have a muffler shop bend you some piping

:werd:

Yeah that's true. I should have mentioned that as well. Good point...

I've got a stock DX EG and I'd like to give it a little more zip by changing exhaust. I already did the cold air, but I don't know whether the muffler will help or not. I get different opinions.
I'd mainly like a little bit better sound and maybe little better mileage.
Any opinions?
Thanks,
Ron

First off, start your own thread from now on instead of butting in on somebody else's question.

Second, did you read the conversation in here at all? I think it should answer most of your questions...

This is 100% correct. I didn't mention that everything else has been changed. The header, cat and mid pipes are bigger than stock just like my integra was but I wanted to know about mufflers. I like that SiR suggestion alot. Oh yeah and the motor is a B18 so I do benefit from the exhaust upgrades.

since the piping is already done yes a different muffler will benefit you.. i'd look into a GSR/ITR muffler or an RSX-S muffler.. either one can be made to fit, just take it to a muffler shop

Relax, just trying to chime in on the same question.
I read all of it before trying to reply.
Sorry I butted in.

Right, I suppose it is better than bringing back some 5 year old thread to ask a non-related question. If you're not concerned at all with performance, then just upgrade the muffler for a different sound. A straight-through design might improve your mileage slightly as well (removing restrictions in the exhaust flow), but it will probably be minuscule, if at all.

If you actually want to increase performance too, then (like eg6sir said) you need to upgrade the piping size as well as just the muffler...
