My son has a 92 Hatch with a B16a swap in it
I think his alternator just went out and I need to know what kind of alternator do I buy for it... like at autozone or kragens

he said it is important to know that it is OBD1

can you help me?
I need to know what to ask for when I go to the auto parts store to buy the new alternator

Thanks a bunch!
Steve

have the battery tested first. might be able to save some money.

yea just test them both to make sure

You'll probably want to ask for a distributor from a pre-96 Del Sol VTEC. As far as I know that's the only car that had a B16 in the US before the 99-00 Civic Si. OBD2 started in 96, so you should be safe asking for one that's pre-96...

thanks for all the quick replies!
you guys are great

We put a different battery and it started but the battery light was on, then it died while he was driving it

he had degreased the engine compartment and when he started the car a bunch of smoke came out of the alternator, that's the day it stopped working

seriously... thanks again!

haha, oops. sometimes you have to learn the hard way. ^_^

edit: on that note, make sure when cleaning he stays away from the distributor also. that is an expensive and annoying part to have to replace.

thanks again guys

autozone has one for 140 bucks
a kid here has one that he says pretty sure is good for 40 bucks

I have had nothing but bad luck out of Autozone's electrical parts. Try for a NAPA. Yeah the have a lifetime warranty, but you will spend your lifetime replacing them!
