Hello I'm new here an I am looking to do an engine swap for my car. I have a 2000 civic dx the engine i have is a d7 slow as hell 106 hp. I am looking to do a conversion to a V-Tec what engines would you recommend? I want a JDM engine like ex. H22A or D15B or B16D. Help me I am in a budget also willing to waste up 2 3k's. Also can someone let me know if labjunkies.com have good prices for there swaps? thank you all

well if you like turbo cars i would just swap in a d16y8 motor and turbo it, that will beat the other motors you have listed

the thing is i live in cali and i believe you can't add any turbos but i am not sure and i was thinking of the y8 or the jdm version d15b.. has anyone heard of a b20? some guy is selling me a b20 with labor and warranty for 1,400 do you think is a good deal anyone know the specs of a b20

wait a min he is gona sell you the motor and out it in and all for that price

yeah he is going to do the whole complete swap plus conversion and engine. but i have never heard of a b20? do think think i should go for the b20?

well im not a fan of them but thats a great price because it will take a new tranny shift linkage axles ecu and maybe a intake manifold for that motor to go into your car and it will take a few new motor mounts

What's a "D7"? Also, there is no such thing as a "B16D." I think you're confused.

The B20 is a CR-V motor, and if someone is offering to install one for you in California they're breaking the law. Since it's technically considered a truck motor it's not legal for swaps into any cars in Cali...

so its a b16a i am sorry so the b20 is illegal in cali. So i should'nt do it ... how does jdm engine work on smog test? can you check out labjunkies.com swaps and tell me which one will you recommend and if prices are good? will an eg engine fit an ek?

JDM engines are legal as long as they have all the emissions equipment that US-spec cars have and as long as the engine is the same year or newer than the chassis. Any B-series or D-series (except for the D17) engine will fit into any 88-00 Civic chassis...

I really don't understand how they can legally offer those B20 swaps in California. Everyone I've ever talked to about that has said that it's illegal to use CR-V motors in anything but CR-Vs in Cali. Maybe the law has changed or they found some way around it?

Anyway, their prices really aren't bad for complete, installed swaps. I'd say go with a GS-R swap from them...

i was thinking more of the"JDM B16A DOHC VTEC 170HP COMPLETE SWAP, WITH NEW CIVIC TYPE R VALVE COVER, 4-2-1 HEADER, MOUNTS, LINKAGE, ECU, AXLES INSTALLED IN ANY 88-2000 HONDA CIVIC/CRX"
Because of the price. or cheap way a y8 usdm.

That B16A would be pretty nice as well. I'd do that over the Y8 if you can afford it. The Y8 won't feel a whole lot different than the engine you already have...

Its not illegal for a shop to swap in a b20, it is illegal for a driver to dive it on public streets.

Gotcha, that makes sense.

So if it's going to be a track-only car, then the B20 swap is ok. If it's going to be a daily driver on public roads, the B20 is not an acceptable choice...

or just move to alabama, you can put a tank motor with straight pipes for all they care :D

I was going to move to alabama buy a house and everything but now that my girl don't like the tornados so have to look for a new place to move 2.

thats true we have one like every other week at least lol

i woulnt not recommend the h22... it has an iron block and it really doesnt have any more hp than a JDM b16a i swapped a b16a into my 97 civic dx and i coulnt be happyer i was lucky because the person before me added ITR cams wich i was told by who i bought the motor from is a very popular modification in japan because of the availability of them.. it would be like putting corvette cams in a camaro.. sorta. i guess it would be only 1 cam haha.. but ne ways the b20 u need to do the pluming for the oil line and all that and i suggest if this is your first swap i would put in the b16 if u want power that way every thing is already plummed oil wise for the vtec ive learned that the more modification you need to make something work... the more painful it will be in the process of the swap. because u get the engine.. then u have to get the adapter plate for the oil filter to plum the head for Vtec then u have to get the plate for the vtec solinoid then well you will need to replace all your gasketts and all that thats for any head swap tho. for simplicity i would stick with the b16 then down the road if u feel brave and u have some time u can do a LSvech thing but the b16 involves no frame cutting and no head modification it just drops right in with the correct mounts and the compression ratio is 10: 1 wich is ideal... the american b16 a has 100 hp per litre if you have 160 hp,, the h22,, has about 160 hp and its a 2.2 litre its less efficiant and its alot heavyer with the iron block.. the b blocks are all aluminum so the simpler the better!
