Ok, i have read soo many threads on this topic, sorry for bringing it up again. But i just couldnt find MY answer.

Correct me if i am wrong (i probably am)

I have an 88 CRX (obd 0) & put in a 97 LS motor (obd2)

I got my harness converted to obd 1.

From what i have read, the reason to go obd 1 is less sensors, and it mods better than obd2. Could this be the reason why i am not passing smog? I dont have all the sensors? I have been talking to some honda tech, and he doesnt understand how my obd 2 motor is running on an obd 1 system, and i dont really know how to explain it to him.

Thanks

Yes many people go obd1 because it uses less sensors which equals less wiring to do. Also people do it so they can use a obd1 ecu for tunning since they can be chipped. What kind of ecu are you running? You should be running a obd1 pr4 ecu if I remember correctly. If you are running a ecu that is not good for your setup it could be why you are failing emissions. You also need to make sure there are no check engine lights or anything like that. The ecu and all electronics need to be operating correctly if you want to pass.

the only real differences between the obd2 and obd1 motors are the distributor. why did you fail smog? they should have tested you by tail pipe emissions.

what ecu are you running with the obd2 motor? that's the real question.

he converted to OBD1, so he should be using a P75 or Pr4, chances are he's not though.

I dont have a CEL, or anything else. I Passed my visual and functional. But how cna you tell why type of ECU you are running? I tried to find some way to identify it, but all it had was a sticker with a bunch of numbers.

yeah the white sticker. it should read something like XXXX-YYY-ZZZ

your interested in the 3 numbers/letter where the Ys are.

Thanks. I have a P75, so i have the right computer. I am hoping its just an o2 sensor.

Can you give us your emissions test results? That would help a bit. :)

Check out my other thread (https://hondaswap.com/hybrid-ed-ef-da/smog-help-see-print-out-ref-130283/)

Blanco, you already suggested an o2 sensor, along with a few other guys. I am hoping to do that this weekend along with a good tune up and try again.

I was just talking to a honda tech, and telling him about my problem and he didnt think it was possible to run an obd 2 engine as obd1, and that was why i was failing:confused: But i guess not.

a honda tech is just that. he's a live version of the honda manual with limited training. usually they're not into the stuff we're doing. anything outside of stock, just keep away from the dealership. it's not worth them doing anything on my car anymore, other than a genuine coolant flush. find a shop that specializes in imports if you cant do the work yourself.

WAIT..WAIT..WAIT...your doin a swap and are unaware how to identify the ecu you are using? thats messed up

Wait and read, the OP already said the swap was done but he failed his smog.
