I have a 93 LS B18A.
I'm aiming for aound 400whp.
I have a T3/T4, pFab exhaust manifold, 500hp rated clutch and light-weight flywheel. I plan on getting the crank knife edged, the engine cleaned and looked over.
I want to buy performance axles, pistons, rings, heads ported and polished, throttle body, and possibly whatever suggestions I get from you guys.
Do you suggest I get an LSD, different transmission, or a combination of both?
Do you know anyone who is selling the parts for an inexpensive price?
I don't have tons of money. But, I'm willing to negotiate.

Please help me out!!!

Thanks-

My first suggestion would be do do a lot of reading. Your car only has a single head, not "heads". Clearly you're not very experienced when it comes to turbo Honda engines or engines in general. You need to do a shit ton of research before you even think about building your motor...

knife-edged cranks are for race motors and have to be rebuilt after every season.

LSD for the win. If you achieve 400whp, your biggest goal will be getting it to the ground. Quaife, or Kaaz or something.

Remember the cost to tune it.

Read thru our reference and tech sections

Thanks for the replies.
I know I need experience and I am doing research by asking you guys EXPERIENCED guys for advice.
My bad on adding the s to heads.
My buddy is doing all the work. He is an ASE master mech. Mostly US cars though.
He has never done this kind of work either. But, I know he not an idiot and will do the job right.
What do you guys think of the info at this link:

Okay, I'll try and locate someone that is selling a Quaife. I really don't want to spend a grand on it if I can help it.
Bad idea on knife-edging????
I'll read thru the tech section this weekend.
Let me know what you think about that link.
Thanks again...

knife-edging on a honda motor gives you only a little more lee-way to create power. but it's at the sacrifice of reliablility. they have to be rebuilt too often for someone to appriciate the benifits. unless it's a purpose built race car, no way. if your coming from a domestic background, you'll soon find out how much more precise Honda motors (for one) are.

good info on that link.

if your making good power (i've heard) above 200whp, you'll kill factory diff's. and unfortunatly good ones arn't cheap. you might be able to find a second hand one, g'luck tho

That information has absolutely no relevance to what you're trying to do. That thread talks about doing a mild N/A build on an LS. You're talking about a full-on, expensive-as-hell turbo build. N/A builds and turbo builds are completely different. The internal parts that you'd use for one are not the same as the internal parts you'd want to use for the other.

Like everyone said, take some time and do a little research on N/A and turbo Honda engine builds. There's plenty of good articles in the reference section about this kind of stuff. Asking people questions...no, wait, let me rephrase that...asking people to spoon-feed you a list of name-brand parts to use does NOT qualify as research...

Knife edging a crankshaft does nothing more than spin the crankshaft faster, thus creating faster rev's. This is usually not needed to make 500whp and is usually done on race engines that put out a tremendous amount of horsepower. Knife edging also decreases the engines life span dramatically. Usually after a good solid season of racing it should be RnR'd with a new crankshaft.

Thanks for the info.
I won't knife edge.
A couple a guys I know that I thought knew what they are talking about suggested that I do that. Good. That'll save me time a money.
I know that I'm going to be spending a few dollars.

I'm shooting for 400whp.... But, if I get around 375-380... I'll be happy too.

My mech friend in MI is taking pic's so I'll keep you guys that give a crap up dated!

Thanks again for you honesty. As brutal as it may be.

I hav enever heard of a knife edged crank, Ive heard of ballanced and microopolished. The only time i ever heard teh term knife edged used is in intakes.

Like on the 2.3Turbo mustangs the lower intake is flat with 4 holes in it. people machine them down to the air splits instead of raming into a wall with 4 holes in it.

knife edging is a process that involves cutting the crankshaft counterbalances into a knife shape so that it can cut throught the oil faster thus lowering rotaional drag on the crank. After the crank is cut though you have to drill out the counterbalances and insert slugs that make up for the weight you lost when shaping the crank. So the crank should be the same weight but with sharper counterbalances. Depending on how much you spend determines exactly how it gets done.

Does anyone know of a good place to get a quality rebuild kit for my YS1 and that doesn't cost a bundle?
I only came across 2 websites that handled imports. The 2 seemed reasonable...
I just would like more options.
The rebuild is coming along.
When it's done, I'll post everything.
Thanks,

V-

Just curious, but what are your plans for the 400hp motor? You going to track it? Or do you just want a 400hp daily driver?

This thread was started in March, its almost June now. Dont thread-jack in a three month old thread, start your own. :)

This is a rare moment guys...it's not often that LS_VTEC gets pwn'd on this forum...usually he's the one laying down the pwnage...let's all bask in the glory... :D

no quite honestly, he doesnt read very well. lol, every time i ask a question, he says something completely unrelated to what's actually going on. sometimes he suggests the things i've already said to have tried in the opening post.

idk i've seen him slip up more than a few times now. and normally, he wont post back in that thread.
