Ok, I'm new to the whole honda scene and I really don't know much about them at all. I've got a 4 door 93 civic. About three weeks ago my harmonic balancer came loose somehow and my crank got totally screwed up. I'm taking this opportunity to get a d16zc put in. From what people tell me I can use my current intake/exhaust manifolds, transmission, mounts and wiring harness. Is this true? What else besides the block will I need to get? On another note, I was thinking about getting a d15 vtec head, but that's getting into the things that I know nothing about :( I'm not looking to get the fastest civic ever out of it, I'd just like a little more pep without sacrificing dependability.

Also, I bought an 89 CRX a while back and this is going to be my project car. I'm open for any and all suggestions on what to do with it. This will be the car I take to the track and see what kind of time I can squeeze in the 1/8 mile. I literally just registered for this account here at work, when I get home I'll upload some pics of both rides.

Wow the harmonic balancer just fell off? I though they were machined onto the crank. Anyway, are you refering to a DOHC or SOHC ZC. If it's a DOHC I don't think it will work but a SOHC will work with a d15b7 VTEC head. I would personally get a z6 or a y8 head because I hear they flow better. And yes most if not all D series parts are interchangeable.

SOHC is what I'm getting. After doing a little more research I think I'm going to get a D16Z6 longblock and not worry about interchanging heads. As far as goals go for the civic I just want to push a little more whp, maybe 180-190, this will be my everyday driver so I think maybe a z6 would be the best, but like I said before, I really don't know jack about cars and what not, but I'm trying to learn :D

Now, for the rex, I wouldn't mind making it a beast. I'm open for any and all suggestions. This is the car I want to drop a b series into. Maybe even boost it somewhere down the road (although there's something really wicked about a NA beast).

I tried to upload pics of both cars onto my profile last night, but it doesn't do it. It just has little boxes with red "x's" where the pics are supposed to be?? Not sure what's going on there, maybe it's operater error:p Anyway, thanks for the info, and the welcome to the site, I like this forum a little better than hondacivicforum.com.. seems a little more friendly here :)

A reliable, street-able D16Z6 that makes 180-190 wheel horse naturally aspirated is NOT going to happen. If you want to make that kind of power on a D-series, you're going to need a turbo setup.

As for the pics, where are you hosting them? Just put them on Photobucket or Myspace or whatever, and then use the little picture icon, paste in the picture's link and it should show up...

Wow you really are crusher of noob ambitions haha :D Ok, so hypothetically, say I get a new water and oil pump, plugs and plug wires, and maybe replace the rings and bearings, i know 180 whp is completely out of the question lol, but what kind of improvement could i expect from that? I know you can't tell me how much whp it'll give me, but do you think it would be noticable? as for bolt ons, on the engine I've got right now I've already got CAI, skunk2 intake mani, headers, short shifter and a red battery tie down (that alone gives at least 2 hp hahaha.. :p ) all that stuff should go right onto the z6, right?

I would guess maybe an extra 15hp at the very most for everything :dunno:

So basically to get noticably faster I'd have to go with a turbo? I'm what scenario would P&P be appropriate? I'm not trying to dump a lot into the civic, I'm saving up my dough to put into the crx this winter (I'd like for it be done by next summer)

Why bother putting any money into the Civic in the first place?

:werd:

If the CR-X is going to be your beast, then I probably wouldn't go much further with the Civic. Just keep it fairly stock so it's reliable and gets good gas mileage.

If you just can't stand it though, then I'd probably look into maybe a mild port n' polish on the head, an after-market camshaft, and some dyno-tuning. If you've already got an after-market mani then you could potentially see some decent gains with the head work and cam.

Don't go with anything crazy on the cam though; just a stage 1 or one that's labeled for street use is fine. Once you get above a stage 1 cam your idle quality is going to start going down, which is not exactly something you want in a daily driven car.

With all of that you could see maybe 150ish wheel horse, which is not bad for a Civic, but then again, it's still not the 180 or 190 you said you were looking for.

Hopefully Blanco stops by and chimes in. He's got a nice little N/A D-series build you might be interested in hearing about...

i need the civic running because not only is it my daily driver.. but i love it and i want it to live forever :( haha, i just figured since i'm going to have to put a new engine in it anyway i may as well take this opp to make it a little bit quicker. I'm uploading pics now on photobucket, although neither car is all that at the moment :D

Just get a z6 complete swap. I'm under the assumption that you have a dx, so the additional 30 hp, and the much better gearing should suite your needs well.
