there's a big of controversy over Kimbo's fight Saturday. The two main arguments are that

1. Kimbo tapped

2. The fight being called was BS and not warranted

so everyone is calling it a screwjob, saying Slice was protected and the other fighter was screwed. Since we're all a bunch of MMA experts on here let's weight in

Here's a video of what CBS didn't show, the event was on a delay and for some reason they cut to a wide shot in the middle of round two, look at :23

YouTube - Bim Cho

and here's the end of the fight, was it premature?

YouTube - Kimbo Slice Final Round 3 on CBS

so, was it a screwjob?

If you look closely at it he isn't tapping, he's giving a thumbs up.

I don't hardly ever watch MMA, but I watched it over the weekend.

23 seconds in the first video it looked more like he was giving a thumbs up to the ref
maybe the ref was asking if he was still ok :shrug2:

as for the second video it did look like the ref called it a bit early... yeah he looked dazed but the ref should have let it go til something more decisive happened... i doubt it would have ended differently :shrug2:

Yea, now that I watch it again more closely it does look like that.

obscene racism removed.

That is a shockingly ignorant comment.

I have not posted a lot in my time here, but I read a lot of stuff, and you have come across as a thoughtful, educated, intelligent person. That post alone changes my opinion. I actually had to read it twice to make sure it said what I thought it did.

From my experience, there are 2 kinds of bigots in this world. Those who think things to themselves and only share their beliefs with family, friends, etc. These people are mostly harmless, but for the fact that they continue to spread their ignorance to their offspring.

Then there are the people who speak their opinions in a (semi)-public forum or belong to some type of hate group that rallies against gays, jews, blacks, mexicans or some other minority. These people end up in Idaho or Montana shooting it out with the FBI on their compound.

Most of these people have no basis for their bigotry, other than they were raised that way. My grandparents were like that. You and I, Cel, are the same age, and should know better. I do, obviously you do not.

I think Kimbo had him stunned and he was going to go down. You could see it by the way he was stumbling around after that last hit. The ref should have let it go on for about 30 seconds more.

He has his thumbs up, thats why the announcers say, "He's OKAY!!" It was pointed out on other forums as well. His submission defense was to wait it out and put his thumb up to say he was okay.

The fight could have been stopped when he was getting pounded while he was on the ground, since he was intelligently defending himself.

I was disappointed that he gased so soon and he seemed to have forgotten all Bas has taught him. Makes me reevaluate the progression I thought I saw him make, but all in all, he still can't go past that first sixty seconds without getting sloppy and simply brawling.

I'd like to see Chuck Liddell pick him apart, but I'm not so sure many fighters can take a shot from Kimbo if he connects.

The fight stoppage was bs. There was no blood in his eye or anywhere else. The guy went into the match without having his ear drained and knowing that it would most likely get popped. Earlier in the night, it was a bs stoppage on the finger to the eye as well.

The finger in the eye stoppage was so MMA didn't look like a bunch of thugs on its first broadcast television debut on a major tv network and the Kimbo stoppage was to protect Elite's cash cow.

The fight was stopped 1 second too soon. But, that may have saved the other fighter's life, so it might have been just right. The other fighter stopped "intelligently defending" himself, which is an instant end to the fight. 2-3 more wide open hits from kimbo in that stunned state could have very well fucked him up permanently. One more hit, and he'd have been on the mat for sure. If I were the ref, I would have allowed that last hit.

did he tap? no, even though he sucks in the actual "sport" of mma, he is a brawler and would choke out before he tapped

was it rigged? absolutely , thompson was winning, no way was he going down. If the ref thought the bleeding was an issue have the doctor make the call. Worst fight evar!

now the WEC fights last night, thats another story... Undercard was fairly entertaining, but the bantamweight title fight was crazy, anyone who thinks that MMA is a bunch of big dudes throwing for the fences and laying on each other should watch a little bit more of this. The WEC focuses in on the lighter weights who really put on a show and go NON STOP

The main fight was also a good one, Urijah Faber is a beast, Jens Pulver is a brick all 5 rounds were awesome...

screw elite XC and all that phony BS, keep it in pro wrestling, thats where kimbo belongs

How do you figure he's the same age as you? Your profile says 19, his says 31.

Also, if you had ever heard him explain his stance on the subject of racism I don't think you'd be so offended...

the only good fight was when Gina Carano fucked that other chick up.. how can she be so fine and kick so much ass??

We've been over this. I'm a very racist guy. Albanians, Italians, the Japanese, middle easterners, mexicans - no one is safe from my jokes or my comments. God help Kimbo if he's a haitian. I didn't call for him to die, or swing from a tree. I called it as it is.

I agree. There is no way you can call that fight without him going down. Could he have gotten his clock cleaned? Absolutely. Could he have taken Kimbo down like every other round, rode it out, and won on the cards? Absolutely. Was it "rigged"? possible. I like to think it was a terrible call and CBS's not wanting their first fight night to be a bloody mess.

I love WEC. Not only for the points that you made but I also believe their fighters just have more of a fire about them.
