My friend has a 96 ek hatch and is looking for a swap. He's leaning on the side of a k because he seen how it handles in my car. But the difference is i have a 92 4door eg. i keep telling him that from what i have read and heard that a B18 would be best for his car. Im coming here to help him and see if anyone got any advice on which motor to use.

Why would a K-series swap handle drastically different in your car then in his? Which motor has more power? The B, or the K? It's the K. Which motor has greater potential overall? Once again, the K.

If he has the money for a K-series engine, then why not?

You have a K series in your fodo? Pics please :D

i keep trying to put pics but its hard when my computer is a piece of shit.looks just like yours chaz dropped little no tint white except i got gun metal silver rims def NOT chrome. hate chomeys

I figured the K was the best choice i just keep hearing that the b is the way to go oh and let me specify something when i say B18 i mean a B18c type R if that helps any if dont looks like he gettin a K20A2.....moneys not a prob with this kid hes put 6000 aside for the swap

Either one of those are good choices. The K20 will be a more difficult swap, but it does have the most potential, either N/A or boosted. The swap itself for either of those engines won't be any more or less difficult then it would be into your car...

It's more of a question of money.

If you can do both of them, and you have the money for both of them, put in the newer engine, in this case the K.

ok thanks for the help.....I have a feeling hes going to be pleased either way he goes with the performance

Heres a pic during my swap but thats all i got right now

lets see a piece of paper that says 1camfury in the picture with it and i'd believe thats yours

a few people i have spoken to who have put k's in their civics and crx's have all said to me that they wish they had gone for the b series as they are cheaper, easier and better power for money to tune than the k series, but then again the b series engine is 20 years old so alot more tuning part are readilly available,

i have seen a k20 crx with 260 bhp against a b20/b16a2 crx with 240bhp both n/a going up the quarter and the b series is the quicker car due the extra torque from the b20 bottom end ;)

so i would say, if i had 6k to play with id build a b20/b16 turbo and still have some change to play with and have a seriously quick car :D

Yeah, not so sure that I'd say the B-series has more tuning potential. The K-series engines have infinitely more N/A potential then the B-series. It's easy to break 200 wheel horse on a K with just intake/header/exhaust and a tune. On a B-series, probably not. Also, add in some other upgrades (cams, intake manifold, maybe some mild head work) on a K and you can make numbers that would require boost on a B-series.

You're definitely right that it's more expensive though...

What he said.

Its all about your budget and know how. The K-Series swap can be more intimidating to some people. Personally, I think once you have had your car torn down to a certain point (bare core support) and put back together sucessfully, all swaps are the same difficulty with the exception of the wiring.

Do some research, make sure your buddy has the budget and the know how, and if everything seems right then go for the K.

If not, do some more research, and do the B-Swap. Do what you can, then come back here and ask the experienced people SPECIFIC questions. Not "hey, how do I do the wiring for a k20 swap??" because you won't get an answer to that broad of a question.
