I know this particular section of the site doesn't get very much traffic, but the people who do frequent here are very knowledgeable, so here it goes.

My goals are more geared toward SPL, but I also want a good bit of SQ, and have a budget of about $2k to achieve this with.

For the front stage; I was thinking a nice PG RSD comp. set would work really nicely, but I'm open to other suggestions/ideas. Sub-stage; I was looking at either 1
15" Fi BTL, or 2 12" Fi BL's, but like the front stage, I'm open to suggestions. The amps to power the system however, I have no idea where to begin.

An HO alt. (not sure how big?), 0/1 ga. wire, sound deadening, and an extra battery I know will be required; just not too sure on where to buy the alt and batt.

The car this will be going into is a 2001 Monte Carlo if that makes a difference.

TIA for all replies.

EDIT
Here's a quick list that I compiled that I think is pretty good. Tell me what you think.

Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS: $250
Alpine PDX-2.150: $240
Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS: $399
Audioque 2200D: $390
HDC315: $250

RSD's are nice - not too deep. PRS deck is probably overkill, unless you are real partial to pioneer (i was until their new line) grab an alpine 9885. I did.

The Audioque stuff would pound for a good price. I wouldn't use a BTL daily - only necessary for a lot of power which I dont find acceptable in a daily setup. Bl's could possibly be a "more SQ" setup - but I and most haven't heard all of these subs to make a judgement.

If you got an alt I'd go 200Amp. Check out Iraggi (find on eBay or search for his phone #), HO Alts, Ohio Generator, Excessive Amperage, etc. I had an Iraggi - cheap and worked fine. The others are a bit more expensive - but they have better high amp options (over 200Amp).

Dont think too hard about your system.

I understand that a lot of people haven't heard the subs I'm asking about, but I thought I'd ask anyway lol.

Would you also suggest a battery to go along with the HO alt?
Also, is 200A enough to give me some room to work with if I want to go bigger in the future?

For batteries the Powermaster D3100 is one of the best - expensive
Kinteik HC2400 is good - still spendy
try the Deka Intimidator group buy at RealmofExucursion

What kind of power do you think you could possibly upgrade to?

2K? I dont think you will need to upgrade alot of things. If your going to use this for daily use then i would upgrade the battery to an Optima yellow top and use 4g. cable if your going to have 1 sub. Just keep in mind that SPL and SQ rarely see each other together. SPL requires a higher frequency and can be acheived by tuning the box that way. The port will be bigger which will compromise your low end notes.

I honestly have never heard of the stuff you have mentioned since i have been out of it for awhile.BUT i stick to what works for me...and what i have seen personally. with that said i used a Jl 13w7 in the past with a 1000/1. I got the loud deep bass with the response of a twelve. It wasnt sloppy at all. That was in a 01 Grand Am Gt. The box was tuned to about 32-35 hertze....the sub got Lowwwwwwwww. I hit 146.1 back in the day.

Another fierce competitor is MMatts amps and subs fucking pound! I think they suck for SQ but thats me. A known DB competitor would have broken the world record in his class if he hadn't got into a heated argument with one of the judges. He was running 2 black modified mmatts amps with kicker solo X 10's's i believe.

How loud are you going for? 140DB's are doable with almost any decent setup for cheap. 150's and up are pretty hard with a Monti Carlo. If your gonna get loud with a 15 then your prolly gonna want a true 1000 watt amp or bigger. they will not be cheap. And and i'm not talking about the best buy kind either even though they can do wonders if your on a budget with a mild build.

Swiss Audio
Memphis
JL audio
Mmatts juggs subs
Fosgate
Eclipse ( very reputable with SQ)
Kicker ( i have never been fond of them but hey they work)
there are alot more out there but these are the ones tht wer pounding when i was in the whole DB thing.

Mid to high 140's would be my ultimate goal, but I'd settle for less as long as it sounds good and has a fairly flat reponse along most lower frequencies.

As far as what kind of power I'd want to upgrade to; maybe something like 5k watts total in the future. That's really not too far of a stretch for a system nowadays is it? Although I do understand where getting into the wattage I am, the limit for how much of that power would be used on a daily basis would def. be there.

That's not a stretch these days - but its a lot of power. I keep leaning toward converting my 2x15" wall to an 8x15" using the same power and good cheap woofers. I dont like the idea of hauling a ton of batteries or killing my alt more than I have to.

I can understand that, and IMO I think a single/dual sub setup on 2k watts should be perfect for a daily.

Would you have any idea on what numbers to expect? I was thinking mid 140's. Am I close at all?

Yes, single 15 or dual 12's and 2k - you should hit in the mid 40s. Might be a little low just because of the car, but it will still sound loud. (My buddy's S10 with a 15 doesn't meter well at the dash, but its really nice and loud)

This is the equipment I went with.

AudioQue 2200D
AudioQue HDC315
Kicker 08zx350.2
Phoenix Gold RSD65cs

I've dicided to keep my Clarion HU because it has some really nice features, and I don't see the need to upgrade. I'm in the process of getting a box built by BJ Fisher, don't know if anyone here has heard of him? My alternator is either coming from HO alts, or EA alts.

Here's a video of what that sub amp combo is capable of in a trunk car with the right box and settings.

If your into seriously into DB competing nice i would look into a nice powerful unit. I dont know what unit you have but i strongly recommend getting a unit with a high output. I love my Eclipse unit. I bought a new CD-5100 (5v) with cool features. When i went on my trip I put that unit in my girls car...4 gigs of music without having to use 1 cd. Memory stick for the win!

I have my older 8445 unit. that one is awesome. I mostly like it because its so powerful. Its got the 8 volt preout and the memory stick to record and upload your stereo settings. When i put the 8 volt in i had to turn my Jl 1000/1 from 3/4 gain to an 1/8 and still have loader bass then before.

needless to say i'm keeping the older unit just because it makes my JL amp have to work less which in turn keeps it cooler and more efficient. I get a cleaner signal like no other.

check em out.
this is one i have in my truck now

The HU I've got has 6v preouts, so that should get the job done. If I'm unhappy with the performance of my deck after installing all of my new equipment, I'll definatly look to replacing the HU.

the only way you can really feel and hear the difference is switching the HU to a 8v and leaving your settings the old way. It will blow your mind how thing change.

Not trying to sell ya anything its just that i wish i would have known sooner so i would have bought the newer 8volt. Good luck on your build man. I'll try to post up some of my stuff.

That makes no difference. Just set your gains how you need to set them. One preout voltage is not better than another.

I cant believe you just said that. You out of all people. Are you saying that 8 volts makes no difference compared to 5V? You saying that it makes no difference to what the amplifier sees? I know for a fact that it makes a world of difference. I personally have heard it. Either way to each his own. I'll be posting my setup pics in my thread.

My hatch POUNDS. I got 2 12" Alpine Type X's in a custom box, with 2 Alpine V12 amps, these subs are 1000W, not sure of exact ohm and RMS value's and what not but doesnt matter heh. I also got a 4F Cap (overkill) and Alpine 6x9s, mids, tweets and a Kenwood amp for the speakers and a Pioneer Dolphin HU. All on 0g wire, and a fuse box that connects 2 fuses in parallel.. I forget what it's called haha. And I have a Optima Red top battery. I was thinking of getting a HO alternator but stock one works fine so far.

When I get all my stuff in at the end of the week, I'll definatly put some pics up.
