my cars go fast
anyone ever used one of these before? my buddy got one for his b16 swap. he said they dont make one for b16, so he got one for a 90 teg. bolted up seemingly perfect, but once fully tightened down, the fingers on the pressure plate were flat. when the trans was bolted up, motor dropped in, cable hooked up, etc, there was no effort in the pedal. it seems as though the throw out bearing isnt even contacting the pp fingers, even when the lever is fully engaged(where the clutch should be disengaged). is this the result of:

1) shitty cheap "xtd brand" ebay pressure plate poorly manufactured
2) cant use 90 teg clutch on b16
3) something else...............

I have had an xtd for 3 years and it works fine. How are the fingers flat when it is completely bolted down? I just don't understand what sort of pressure would be put on those fingers to flatten them or were the flat the way they were.

The fingers are supposed to be flat when the pressure plate is torqued down. Take a look at my Action Clutch 2KS when I installed it on my B16...

Sorry buddy, I wouldn't know what the problem is. I would assume a B18A1 clutch would fit on any B-series. Do some googling.

what did the b16 get swapped into?? and you fully adjusted the cable? xtd is a descent brand, i used one on my first dx hatch without a problem. and yea the fingers will sit kinda flat when the plate's torqued down. so the release arm moves up and down with absolutely no resistance??

its going in an ef. adjusted the cable all the way. and yes, the release arm moves up and down freely when the trans is bolted up. how is this possible? isnt it supposed to be nearly impossible by hand?

thats exactly what mine looks like. and, to the best of my knowledge, the 90 teg clutch is all you can order for a first gen b16 w/cable

hmm does it matter if the clutch is for a hydro trans or cable? cause i was actually wonderin what clutch to get for my ef, b16 swap...i gotta hydro trans from a 96 gsr

thats really odd.... cause the throwout bearing should pretty much be rested right up against the pressure plate..can you look thru the trans housing where the starter would go and see if the bearing is moving?

its a clutch for cable trans. i put it back together now like 70% of the arm movement is like freeplay. like the t.o.b. isnt contacting the fingers til the arm moves almost all the way up. doesnt make any sense

I have an XTD clutch for a second gen B16 (Del Sol) and a DA flywheel on a first gen B16 motor and tranny and it works fine, did you put the clutch disc in properly? The center of the disc should be marked "flywheel side" being its the side that goes on the flywheel. Other than that I dont know, adjust it and run it and see what it does.

thats the plan. we're at that point like: fuck it, lets just finish it and see what happens

i was gonna suggest the clutch disc backwards idea myself...the spring side faces the trans...other than that im plum outta ideas yo

ive never understood when people say this. its not even possible to put the clutch disk on backwards. the way its designed, the center hub will only fit on one way.

this is gay. now i cant find anyone to help me slap this thing back in. even the owner is bs-ing how do i always get stuck doing shitty favors for people? and when did a motor swap become nothing more than a favor:confused:

did you unbolt the release fork that holds the throw out bearing? leaving that bolt out would cause the fork to sit stationary while you rotate the rod. if you didn't remove it however, i suggest adjusting the cable so that it's almost all the way up to where it stops when moved by hand, then have someone get in and press the clutch. there's very little actual travel in the line compared to how much you move your foot, but it should be enough provided that you remembered to put that release fork bolt back in. ^^
