Hi, I've got a delsol with JDM d15b Vtec engine and Automatic Transmission... I made lite modifications over the engine and installed an Apexi V-AFC controller, so it seems to be more powerfull now :) But I`ve still got an ATT, that I`m NOT gonna change to a Manual one.

The QUESTION is.... has anybody meet any conversion kits, to change the GEAR RATIOs on such an AT trans.?! Some kind of product like "tuning kit" to enforce the ATT and to make the Gears shorter....

Thank you for any help in advance! :)

theyre called shift kits...ive never seen them made for hondas, but im sure someone here has,

its something you put in the tranny..they are made specifically for auto trannys
you can also get a high stall torque converter

No electronic device can actually change your gear ratios. It can mess with shift points and time them to coincide with certain events (mph, boost pressure, etc.) but the only way to actually change your gear ratios is to have the transmission rebuilt with different gears, and that's going to be hella expensive, probably more than your car's worth.

There's a few companies out there that build custom auto transmissions for Hondas, but honestly there's not really much of a market for it since it's easier and cheaper to modify a manual transmission.

Why are you so opposed to swapping? Are you disabled or something, or are you just one of those "I'm hellbent on building a fast automatic Honda because my buddies told me it was a bad idea" kind of assholes?

Maybe he can't drive a manual, so he has to resort to using a slushbox transmission.

Yeah, perhaps. Every once in a while though some a-hole will come along and insist that automatic Hondas can easily be just as fast as their manual transmission counterparts and will look for ways to cheaply build up their automatic against all advice...

Just buy an automatic ex transmission, and buy an aftermarket torque converter. Should be able to hold up. I saw a company that made them for Honda's. They held up 700+ whp too. Pretty interesting stuff. :)

:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

That's the greatest joke I've ever heard!!!
Why You people cannot just answer my simple question?! What for you started arguing about "what do I need it for"?!
I just wanna do and that's all)))

Changing trans to manual - is the easiest way - but it is not the way I'm gonna go!)

You should consider, that I'm Russian (and I live in the Russian Federation), if you know what I mean :) And we, Russians, never choose the easy way))))

to BrutalB83: I'm not asking about electronic device.... Changing gears - is my point! I'm searching for a Kit of Gears... that some American company can produce... and I'm almost sure that there are some :) cause USA - is the leader in car tuning industry :) And rebuilding is not a problem (i can do it myself).... P.S. - House is a great guy :)

I'm not looking for a cheap way... I just need a way!!!

I would be greatful if someone just help me in my search, without arguing "why"....

Thank you!

Automatic transmissions (that you need) usually all have the same gear ratios. Keep in mind, automatic transmissions are more than just gears, theres an exceptional bit of electronics involved. You can google for a gear set for your automatic transmission, but I don't think your going to be successful.

If you post on an Internet forum you're opening yourself up to criticism whether you want it or not. As you yourself said, swapping to a manual is the easier and better way. Why is it that you're opposed to it?

Let me ask you this: what are your purposes for this car? Is it going to be an all-out drag strip race car? If the answer is yes, then ok, it makes more sense that you would want to build up an automatic transmission. If the answer is no, and this is just your daily driver car that you're looking to hop up a bit, then I don't really see the point of trying to modify your slush-box transmission. Like I said, for upgraded automatic gears and a torque converter you could easily spend what the car's worth. That just doesn't make sense to me when you could swap to manual for around $1,000 - $1,500 if you shop around for parts.

Sorry, I just had to say that. If you do insist on doing this, you might want to check out Level 10 (Level 10 Performance Transmission Systems). They're really the only people I know of that make performance upgrades for automatic Honda transmissions. I don't even know if they will be able to help you much though, it looks like they specialize in torque converters and clutch packs...

Auto trannies use sets of planetary gears for each gear ratio. It would be extremely expensive to have custom planetary gear sets made to fit your setup. Auto's are in no way setup like a manual (2 shafts with gear sets on them).

duh everybody knows all you have to do is get a short shifter, hence the name..............

no im joking, best route would be ex auto tranny and deal with it.

Check out Level10. They have some import auto stuff. As stated above, you cant change the ratios. A shift kit DOES NOT change the ratios, just the shift firmness. Theres nothing wrong with auto's or building them up. Lots of people hate on them but I had no problem running faster then my Matrix brothers in MT cars with my crappy slushbox.....And REAL drag cars use auto's so they must not suck that bad....

Right, but then again those automatics are purposefully built for racing. They're built strong and with the ideal gear ratios right from the start. Unless you're going to completely tear down a Honda auto tranny and rebuild it with custom gears, a manual transmission will probably net the fastest times.

I'm not saying you can't beef a Honda auto tranny, and that you can't turbo on one and have a fast car, I'm just saying that a manual is still the best choice overall...

I thought this thread died? :shrug2:

Manual is the best choice for you is what you mean. Sure you lose more power with an auto, but its 5%. Everyone ragged on my Matrix saying autos are boring to drive, slow etc... I showed that that was all untrue. 200whp is fun to drive, I dont care what trans you have! With a tq converter upgrade and valve body upgrade, you will be shifting solid and fast like an manual with consistancy as well. If you bracket race, the auto would be even more ideal.

Not saying autos are best. For a budget build or typical street car, sure the manual is a LOT easier to make power with and get it to the ground. But there is no reason you cant keep your auto and have fun!!
