so im kinda new with hondas but not with cars, i drive a 98 ek hatch that had a d16y8, after throwing a rod in the block and having a hard time finding another y8 block i decided to just throw a b7 block on, boost the comrression a little bit and see what happens, well currently the car is chopping up all throughout the rpm range, but with the right pedal pressure itll run fine, and i torqued the head bolts down to y8 specs (i used y8 head bolts) and my head actually became lose and sprayed antifreeze everywhere, so heres my question.
1. am i using the wrong head bolts?
2. why in the hell is it chopping up horribly?

Yes, you are using the wrong headbolts, You have to use 9 Z6 headbolts and 1 Y8 head bolt *I believe its the corner where the Vtec solenoid sits* due to the Y8 head not being raised in that corner like the B7/B8/Z6 heads are.

Also, the deck heights are different, What cam gear are you using on the Y8 head? Do you have the cam gear for the B7 laying around, or an adjustable one? Your mechanical timing will be all kinds of fucked if you are using a Y8 cam gear *You will be off 4.5 degrees* which will cause it to break up, and if you are off by an extra tooth, you will be of over 10 degree's, which will cause interference, which will wreck your valves/pistons.

Click the link in my sig for the mini-me write-up with that head on that block. Its a bad combination, Sorry to tell you.

well i dont have the b7 cam gear, but one is easily attainable, but what were your results after you put the cam gear on?

It vastly improved the issue of it breaking up due to the mechanical timing being off, however I could never seem to get the ignition timing quite right because the Crank pullies for the D15 and D16 blocks are different as well so it always had a bit of hesitation, and then finally the headgasket let go for the second time with that setup and I scraped it and bought a B18B1 and have loved every second of it.

(I'm selling the majority of a OBD1 B18A1 swap right now for $450 in northern IL)
