Trading in the Audi :(

Soooo I am very sad about this but I can't keep spending 500/m on gas to drive this thing. I freaking love this car but not much I can do now with being newly single and paying all the bills myself. I gotta find ways to save.

So I am picking up a 2006 Jetta GLI with 43k on it $18,500, 5 year 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty . Its really nice and gets 27mpg , says the lil MPG meter. Thats 9mpg better then what i am getting now with the A6.

Payments are going from $267 to $320. Insurance went up 39 dollars for 6 months. But the gas savings should be significant.

GLI = 459miles per tank 27mps a 17 gallaons
A6= 324 miles per tank 18mpgs x 18 gallons

I was almost going to buy a 2007 Civic SI with 22k for $18500, Silver, 6pd....I gotta be honest....i was not impressed at all....it wasn't very resposnive as far as power goes, i know the power band is probably in the higher RPMS but honestly was just not impressed. It was the two door as well and its just to dam small! It didn;t have leather, power seats, heated seats etc...Still a nice car though. The dealer i went to sold 167 civics last month and ran out for 3 days lol. They didn;t have a civic to sell...GO GAS PRICES.

Nah i have been driving more conservative lately. There is a gauge on the dash that shows the average miles per gallon and it reads 27mpg. So the person driving the car before me was getting that. So i'll atleast see 25..which will still make a big difference

I won't buy a new civic for a while, at least until they shift the power curve down to the lower RPMs. Sure, it's great that it makes 180Hp at 8000k, but when am I ever at 8k? it takes forever to get up that high.

I'm growing more and more fond of the TSX/Euro Accord every day I drive it.


Btw, you just traded down. Srsly. The Jetta is the a4 chassis with a shitty engine and drive line. I would have traded to an a3 if you wanted better gas milage. Jettas are shitty cars.


EDIT: I just looked at the car you posted the link to. I hope it works out for you. I sure wouldn't buy that car, but then again, Volkswagen and I have some differences on a phisiological level. Enjoy the car, too bad you'll be spending more on gas though.

Yeah, well i went to 6 dealerships and not 1 dealership would give me more then 11k trade in on my A6. Anything that guzzles gas is getting crappy trade in values because no one can sell them.

My payments only went up 53 bucks and my insurance went up 36 dollars over 6 months thats about 5 bucks a months and also because i upped my property dmg frm 10,000 to 50k when i changed.

I'm getting a car thast 3 year newer, all the same luxeries(leather, power seats, heated seats, power moonroof, sirius radio, mp3 jack etc...etc..) and i am going to get 7-9mpg better and still has a pretty nice car.

I'm going to minimally getting 100 miles more per tank with a smaller tank.

I'm pretty solid with this decision.

Audi 267 car payment, 135 insurance, 500/m gas = $902
Jetta 320 car payment 140 insurance 300/m gas = $760

Savings $142/m

I looked into the A4 but the gas mileable averages were about 21-22. I got my Fiance to buy an 2004 A4 with 33k about 2 mnths before i left her. She is averaging about 22mpg, its an Auto.

This is how Americans save money. They buy things. Make sense yet ? Then sit your ass down and you think about it until it does !

Granted, I'm paying 340/month to drive something that's not over 20 yrs old.

Anything outside of a 1991 Civic Hatchback, is a luxury. The EF Civic is the smartest car there is to buy.

Unfortunately, they are quickly going the way of the dinosaur, or people are going into the $5000 amounts to sell theirs. Making it no longer that smart.

Read the thing about Time Usury, and you can see the same principles work for Cost Usury. Remove some from here, add alittle there. Even my Bike isn't a savings at all, with $177 a month payment, and it gets 30-35 mpg making it the same as an old Civic. But it requires new tires every 10,000 miles, valve adjustments at 8000 miles and premium (PREMIUM) gas. there is no savings at all.

It's GOING to cost you a certain dollar / penny amount to drive.

Welp, just took it home, got 27.8 on a 35mile trip keeping it on 70mph Cruise. almost 10mpg better then the Audi....Its actually a really nice car...nicer then i remember when i drove it...Not an Audi but o well what r u gonna do...

It's pretty sad when you're trading in a car to get better gas mileage, and that "better" is only 27 mpg. You know you're on a Honda forum, right?

Just bustin' your balls. I just don't really see your logic. If you were concerned so much about MPG why didn't you get a get a civic or camry or something of that sort? GLIs don't get that many MPG really, especially in the city...
