i'm new to this and i was trying to see what engine be good since this is a project car i want to do drag racing in.

If you are going to drag race it seriously you need to invest in a good suspension/tire setup. I would boost a b20 and spend the rest on suspension upgrades. Power is no good unless you can keep it on the ground. That's just me though.

+1 for the B swap, and good tires and suspension. You could rebuild and do a boosted mini me with the stock motor or swap a Y8 or the like and boost that and it would be just as fast as a boosted B-series and cost a lot less. *waits for Blanco to further describe D-series options*

i dont think so scooter..a boosted d will not be as fast as a boosted b..
unless the motor is built, and tuned properly..
for 5g's you can swap a b and run turbo..

The D will still be a whole lot cheaper to build though, with only five grand most of the money is going to go to swapping it and doing the needed suspension work, not leaving a whole lot for the B build and to turbo it.

thanks hondakid and rabbit
also what you think bout this engine for it

OBD0 B16, I have the same motor in my EF, with some minor bolt-ons and it is really fun to drive. Since its OBD0 it will make the swap a lot easier for you. All you need to do is some minor electrical and a few mechanical things. Me and my friend did mine in a weekend after we gathered all the needed info and had all the parts needed to do it.

What motor is in the civic now?
D16A6?
D15B2?
No motor?

If you have the Si which has the A6 in it, with a 5K budget I would recommend a fully built turbo D.:D

D series motor = $0-$400 (depending on condition)
Parts to build = $1,000-$4,000
Turbo set-up = $500-$2,000
TOTAL-------$1,500-$6,400

B series motor with all the parts needed to swap into an EF = $1,500-$3,500
Turbo set-up = $500-$2,000
TOTAL---------$2,000-$5,500 (with no money left to build)

Fully built turbo D > Stock turbo B

Disclaimer: These numbers are just an average of what it would run you to build any of these. So don't reply to me saying "I can do this or that for this much".

He says he has $5000 to work with right now. I would say swap in a gsr and then boost that.
