b18c1 stock sleeves hold 13.5 compression pistons

i have a b18c1 block w/an ls crank rods and a block guard.. the head is going to be p&p valve springs/retainers , all that good stuff . would 13.5 supertech pistons im running race gas lsd you know what do you guys think
 
:huh: Say again? Are you trying to ask something along the lines of the pistons being good for your set up? I'm confused. What are your goals first of all?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, get rid of the block guard. It is going to cut off your coolant flow a lot. I would consider getting sleeves if you really want the reinforcement and peace of mind instead.

Um, yes. You definitely won't be making 350+ whp so sleeves shouldn't be a concern. Rods may be a concern if you squeeze enough power out of it. From the sound of it, you don't really know what you're doing. Is someone building this for you?
 
Your stock sleeve will hold that compression just fine. Like Luis said, get rid of the block guard. There's no need to resleeve at those power levels either. DO definitely have the engine tuned by someone who knows what they're doing. Detonation kills sleeves WAY before high power levels do. You can get 13.5 compression to run just fine on pump gas too if you have the right cams and know how to tune. :D

Still, 13.5:1 compression is a waste of time when tuned on pump. He wont even get to take advantage of the power it can make on pump gas. He is going to have to use a mild lift/short duration camshaft, being its an ls crank. With that long rod stroke its gonna be hell spinning it higher than 8200rpm regardless of what build it is. Even with S2S1's, he would still have to retard the timing, I dont care if god tunes it himself. ;)

Huh? Where are you getting your info from? You want a LONGER duration LONGER overlap cam setup for high static compression. That rod/stroke setup doesn't have ANY problem spinning WELL past 8200rpm too.

Did you fail to notice the part where he is using an LS crankshaft? Do your homework and you will understand that long rod stroke + your long duration camshaft = guaranteed bearing failure at high rpms. 13.5:1 compression is worthless when tuned on 93, bottom line. Been there, done that. 12:1 - 12.5:1 will be suitable for 93 octane pump gas. I dont care who builds that engine, it will fail at high rpm's, bottom line.

Uh... yeah, I did notice. I built several. I've tuned many. I know what I'm talking about. Do you really think that 1.58:1 is really that different from 1.54:1 on your rod stroke ratio? GSR cranks spin that high. Put in a 1.8mm longer stroke crankshaft into the same block and it's perfectly fine if you've built it properly.
 
lol...its like he doesnt understand what you do for a living cal....believe me...its a lot more technically complicated than making a ls spin above 8200rpms.

Even the flow bench manuals recommend against more than 12:1 on pump gas and rather recommend using compression based on what octane you're running. I trust your opinion with many things, but not with this.

Remember, your 13.5:1 engine burned up because of a bad tune

So does mine. Don't worry, building an engine with a static compression that high to run on pump gas is pretty stupid most of the time. You just need high static compression to make a crazy overlap cam setup work well- you need the static compression to keep the dynamic compression up when you're bleeding out in the overlap phase. It's doable, but you have to be damn good.

My engine was 12.8:1, and yes it was a bad tune- by a California retard that I shouldn't have trusted to even touch the engine. I got screwed on the whole deal- paid for a half day of dyno time and got 45 minutes and 9 pulls, then didn't get a retune when I kept badgering him to be more conservative for Texas heat. Oh well, live and learn. Now I know better tuners, and I know for sure that my tuning is better than Jeff's. By a long shot. :D

Damn....he went there.

No biggie. Mistakes happen. My first two builds ran a ton better, and even my own tune on the third build was better than the tune that blew it apart!
