I have a GE Block Guard. Ive heard negatives and positives. Im not sure if i need it or not ive heard they are more or less for racecars, that they can leave hot spots and they squeeze the sleeves and wont allow anything to expand the way its clearenced too. My setup currently is LS/Vtec with eagle h beam rods, ross 10:1 pistons, Walbro 255, Bosch 975cc injectors, GSR head. Im soon to get a tune and looking to run around 12 psi daily and 18-19 track days i was just wondering if i really need the BG. Id appreciate your oppinions. Thanks
 
Dont use the block gaurd, they do create hot-spots and resrict colant flow. And psi means nothing, but to answer your question, 250 on the stock sleeves will be fine, and 250whp that hooks up will be plenty of ponies to have fun with.
 
I cant remember what the stock sleeves on the B are good to it might be in the 350/400 range too, but if your going to be getting up there it wouldnt be a bad idea.
 
Theres a shop in New York that built a 500 horse stock sleeve B series, it all just depends on how long you want the engine to last. Id say once you get past the mid 300's sleeves are a great investment.
 
well there's block guards out there with ported holes to allow the colant to flow good

Just because they have holes for coolant flow doesnt mean that they dont somewhat hinder that flow.

usually how much does sleeving cost for a b series block?

Around a grand. Depends on where you live, what sleeves you use, and who does it though.
 
Stock B-Series sleeves are quite sturdy under decent power. 450+ is pushing it on the longevity. There's a build on Honda-Tech that has a stock sleeve LSVTEC-T at 520whp, has been for almost a year now. Thats not too bad for that much power.

I'd say sleeve if youre looking upwards of 400.
