weird idle

Ok i just put my newer B16 in my car, with the old motor i was having a problem at highway speed if i ran at a constant speed i would loose power, like i was only running on three cylendars. when i switched the ignition off then right back on it quit and ran fine. now with my newer motor the problem has arrisn at idol and sometimes at highway speed. still if i switch it off and then on real quick it straightens out.i thought it was wiring but i checked all of the connections no help. ajusted TPS, did timing check, new fuel filter. i was thinking maybe injectors or fuel pressure regulator. if anyone has had this problem and fixed it please tell me it is driving me crazy.

idle...sorry i can't help it...i see this when i read your thread title. :D

as for the problem it sounds like limp mode. but i don't know much about that.

Sounds like you might have an ingintion control module going out. Or else it's the main relay under your dash.

i've had both of those issues and his problem description didn't set off my radar for them. worth checking i guess...
:shrug2:

yea yea so i can not spell sorry idle from now on. how do i check both of those i have a book from integras but they are the wrong obd. i don't know what mine is i think it is OBDO it has three plugs on it a long one(white) and two small ones(black). the ecu is a pr3-J00 i do know that but not much more.also all of the plugs on the harness are diff. color. the injector plugs are cream color. i also have a rex book would that help?( i will look at it tonight) Also could it be that i swaped to a blox 72mm throtle body, with port match on the stock mani. the throtle body covers the bottom hole in the mani. could that be it?

oy - regarding the ignition module, it is part of the distributor assembly. the main fuel relay typically hangs out inside the cabin, lower left of steering wheel up under where all the important wiring is ;). here's an example of what your ignition module could look like (i don't know for the setup you have, this is just a general 'what it looks like' deal):

here's what the fuel relay looks like:

the interwebs have all kinds of how to replace 'em notes. there are a few threads here on HS talking about the symptoms of each failing too. click 'search' and then type 'ignition module' and then hit enter.

thanks for the help and the pic i will try that out and see what happens. i don't think it is the ignition module because it did it with two different distributors. thanks i will let you know what happens

That would be my guess, that TB is too big for a stock motor, and covering those holes will make it idle like shit, swap it back to stock and see if it makes a difference.

the picture that dacheat posted was correct, however you might think the plug closer to the camera is the one that's being pointed at, when it's the one behind that. the larger one with the maroonish bottom. btw cheat, did you remove your whole dash to take that picture, or are you just a contortionist? rep+ for your great pic or great flexibility!

hehe naw, that's an intarweb photo and a manhand - but i did do some super sleuthing with teh google to find it ;).

for the record, i don't think that shot is possible - it has to be photoshopped :D

i kid, i kid....

i will swap back to stock and see what happens but damn that thing gives me kick ass top end power. i will save it for track use. that module is a pain to get to for real so i will try the body first thanks.

The stock throttle body fixed it. Damn it. it would have worked fine if i hadn't ported the intake manifold. but o well thats tunin for ya. thanks all for the help, hopefuly i can be of service to yall in the future. later
