Hey guys,
I'm kinda new here, and just have a few questions about my '97 Prelude motor build, I'm hoping that everything can get started after i get my head back from the shop (a valve bent, so I had everything machined and replaced, and considering the fact I want to boost, I had the head build up..)

I'm basically just looking for some info. from people with some experience in this area.. some hints/ tips.. maybe some recommendations and needed parts??

My budget is around ~$10k.. and I'm thinking that I'll have to do some tranny work, new clutch/ flywheel, axles(??) to be safe. Does anyone recommend getting an SH or JDM tranny with the LSD??

Anything will help me out here guys, so feel free to post anything that will benefit the build, just keep in mind that gas prices are going up and this will still be my Daily Driver... So I'm not lookin to put down crazy numbers and lose those mpg's lol

Thanks Again
-Mike

Increasing performance usually comes at the cost of gas mileage. It's very possible to still get decent mileage on a boosted engine, but that's assuming you're going to drive it pretty conservatively 99% of the time.

So what exactly are you asking here? What parts are needed to safely reach 300 horses on an H22? An LSD transmission is always a good thing to have, no matter how much power you're making. Honestly though, the H22's block isn't really the best for boost. The compression is decently high, plus it's got fiber-reinforced sleeves rather then the iron sleeves found on some of the other Honda engines. The best option is to have the block re-sleeved, but that will probably put you over your budget.

I'd probably go for an off-the-shelf turbo kit (or piece together a kit if you know what you're doing) and then take it to an experienced tuner and get a really good tune...

I would also upgrad the rods in the engine also. And if you're gonna do rods might as well do pistons also.

Right, yeah. I forgot to mention that part. To my knowledge though, you generally have to have the motor sleeved to run forged internals on the H22s. I think somebody (Golden Eagle maybe?) came up with a way to get around that a while back though...hmmm, must research...

pretty sure you have to sleeve. but my point is that if you're gonna open up the block and start doing work you might as well do it up right. Kinda like when you do the timing belt you might as well change out the water pump cause you're already in there.

yea i realize that ill sacrifice some gas mileage.. but at the same time im not lookin to run 500hp.. i could live with ~300fwhp, ive heard of it being done, even on H22's with stock internas, and i also realize that H22's arent the BEST motors to boost without sleeving, but at the same time, with a good sleeve job, good parts, and a nice tune, they can be pretty amazing :) .. I also realize that the best motor to build is an F22 or a G22 (F22 Block, H22 Head), but over time this can be pretty pricey as well, but i have heard of people pushing around 300whp on stock internals with stock sleeves, although I do know they ran into problems as they approached 400whp.. and if i ever reach close to that, ill pull the motor and have the bottom end build and balanced..

I'll most likely try to search with an SH tranny or quite possibly a JDM type-s, and potentially build the syncros... When I get my head back, it should be basically flawless, and thats part of my budget, simply because that was necessary to get it running safely again, so with the rest of the money I'll be purchasing parts, possibly minimal instal, and definitely a good and safe tune..

But basically, do you have any recommendations for parts/ kits? and necessary parts?

You will definetly need to have the block sleeved, there is no way around that. Sleeving usually runs about $1000 you will also need some forged rods and pistons also. Eagle and JE are good brands for rods and pistons and are very affordable. You dont need to do alot with the head but a valve job would be a good idea. Either buy a turbo kit or build a custom one but either way have a good tuner setup it up for you so you dont destroy an expensive motor.
