would i be running a cel if my v-tec wasnt kicking in? for some reason i dont think it is at all. and i have no clue as to what it would be. or how to check without getting it dyno'd

Sometimes, yes. There is an error code that will flash if something's wrong with the VTEC solenoid. I don't remember which code it is offhand though, you'd have to look in the list in the reference section...

i'm not running one. i just went and checked to see. and i made sure my cel even worked. which it did thankfully. b18 swap, or b20 swap though. i want to get rid of my d series. and i can get a motor for fairly cheap. i just dont know which would be better.

well you would want ls/vtec on your b20. ad then you would get it tuned right so its more reliable. if it were me id go for a b18b1 or a b18c1 either motor is good but the c1 has vtec

yeah. but i kinda dont want v-tec though. only because my car has like no power, and my buddys b18a1 has power in the whole rpm range. and i want that.

Single-cam VTEC is a lot less noticeable then dual-cam VTEC. If your CEL isn't on then it's probably working fine...

yeah, im about to buy a jetta for like 1200 so i can rip apart my civic and paint it completely, since i'm doing a full recolor, and do the swap and all that shit. since i dont think i'm gunna wanna drive it lowered in the snow. but i got my allignment fixed =] now i dont get so pissed off when i'm driving it
