GARRETTI

CIVIC SWAPER
I want to build a crvtec turbo engine capable of at least 450whp! What do i need to do to the block an head to achieve this?

Psst...if you just ask and don't search, most people on here will not give you advice but rather, will ignore you. This has been done quite a few times. Just use the search for CRVTEC or B20VTEC and you will get the information you need. Then when you have specific questions, all you have to do is ask. :D Best of luck on your build.

thnx i have done some research so ill put what i know on here than ask some more specific questions thnx!

That's a PERFECT start my friend. Also stating which parts you plan to use would be a good idea too.

Ok so lets say this is what i get. b20b block(jdm), a SIRG head (jdm gsr), and a t66 garrett turbo. I know i will need to sleve the block for low compresion and build the head to handle the extra power. I have seen pictures of blocks that are bored out then sleved to get ride of the gap between the block an the cylinder walls. First question is this stronger than just sleving it? And secound question, with this setup and a pretty built head could i run 15-20 psi and get around 450whp?

You don't have to get JDM parts, you know. USDM parts will work just as well and run you less at times. Sleeves would be a must in my opinion, as the B20 sleeves are known for their weakness. I believe you can safely bore it then to 89mm to 89.5mm max if I am not mistaken.

You'll also need a tranny there, chief. :D Have you given it any thought?

Are you talking about using a block guard instead of sleeves?

To answer your second question, let your TUNER know your desired horsepower AFTER you have properly built your engine.

Ya about the tranny im thinking about a b16 tranny with LSD and a ls fifth gear(longer gear), and a Tilton triple plate sprung clutch(if i need it) or just a stage 4 six puck clutch! Tiltons a little expensive. lol. And i was told that jdm parts are better than usdm. I would prefer jdm just because i like the ring to it! but if theres a big price difference than usdm would be better. Question about the block guard is that what fills the gap between the cylinder walls and the block? If so is that better or worse than just sleeving the block?

Sleeve the block. As far as your tranny goes, I would choose a Type R or GSR with LSD over the B16. If you wanted to go non-LSD, from what I have learned, the GSR is the best all around tranny.

JDM is just a name. Go with what will work best for you and be most affordable.

What is your budget like, by the way?

The block guard would go between the sleeves, yes. Go with the sleeves, screw the block guard. It will constrict your coolant flow and it is not as effective or safe as sleeves.

ok sounds good. My budget? hmmm. well all togather for a car and engine (everything) im looking at about $8-10000. I think if i plan correctly i can achieve the 450whp goal. On the other hand im not sure! one of my friends built a crvtec turbo pushing 240 to the wheels for around 6, and i have another friend with a fully built gsr turbo running 540 to the wheels and he spent around $35000. So.... im not quite sure about how much it will cost me! Im probobly going to talk to my friend Brian who owns a race shop called Track Forged and tell him what im looking for an how much it would cost me!

*nods head* Have you priced any parts out at all?

block and head and turbo system around $3800 but im not sure about how much it costs to build up the block and head and how much everything else will cost. Its starting to sound like this kind of hp might be out of my price range!!

I'll just point upwards to what I just said. :D You're going to have to do your OWN research on prices my friend. I can't hold your hand through that, especially since there are a GAZILLION and one parts out there. If you'd like some useful information for your head build, feel free to visit the thread I have in my sig. It may give you a few ideas. Best of luck to you.

Thanks a lot! Ill check out some different parts and start pricing out the ones i will need to build my engine! I still have a lot to learn about engine building! Everyday i learn something new! thnx.

My pleasure. Make sure that you are patient and do your research on EVERYTHING you want. That will ensure that you will not mis-spend your money. :D

:werd: on the JDM stuff. If you're going to be completely building the motor anyway, then there's really no point in spending a few extra bucks to have a B20 block or GS-R head that came from a car in Japan as opposed to a car from the US. JDM doesn't always equal better...

:werd: on top of his :werd: 'cause his :werd: is as good as gold and I really wanted to :werd: it up for him. :D

This is kind of sad, but this is the last post that I looked at last night and I just woke up, refreshed it and thought of something very important.

Have you done any brake/suspension upgrade work to your car yet? That is going to be very important.
