eBay Motors: Other Makes (item 170234276964 end time Jul-06-08 13:00:00 PDT)

People are bidding ridiculous prices on this, and I can say with 100% certainty that this car won't hold up to the auction description.

Specifications:

  • 8.5 kilowatt, 120 volt, AC motor
  • 10 - 105Amp Power Deep Cycle Batteries (US made DECA)
  • 7.67ft x 5ft x 5ft
  • 2 Passenger
  • 5.41ft wheelbase
  • 25 mph (can be set to 50 mph)
  • Up to 60 miles on a single charge
  • Can be charged in 1 hour using any 110 Volt outlet
  • 440 lbs passenger capacity
  • 145/70R12 tires
  • Power Windows
  • Mag Wheels
  • AM\FM Radio with CD player
  • Remote Door Locks
  • One Year or 12,000 mile warranty on the motor
  • One Year Warranty on East Penn Battery which can be honored at any East Penn Service Station
For this to charge in one hour it would be a ridiculous amperage draw. 4 - 8 hours for a charge sounds more like it. It looks like a clone of a clone of a clone. Smart - Flybo- wth. and so on.

Found an ad for the car here too

25 mph ? Why bother ?

Get a segway. Get a 50cc scooter. Walk. I mean what the fuck. even 50 mph, why bother ?

yeah.. 25mph sucks.. citycar thing again, works for some people and not for others.. People like my mom cannot walk because any distance or ride a bike too much because of a foot condition, thats the primary reason she wanted one. She doesn't want to use gas either.

Still, its way too much for something like that. It's a lot to ask for to start with and its Chinese engineering, so it's way too much to ask for.

She doesn't want to use gas either.
Electric cars aren't free. For either money spent, or resources consumed.

It's creative accounting, taking a sum from one column and moving it to another. Just shuffles the deck.

Shuffles the stacked deck ;).

Even with cost for replacing the batteries may get the real cost to around 6-10 at most cents per mile. Until battery storage gets better, its barely worth it to drive an electric car today, or actually purchase one for use, mostly because of limited uses.

Regardless of the battery replacement: The power source is STILL whatever your town processes for electricity. Electricity is just a decent form of transporting the energy from the source process to the end consumer.

You should know this, and I'm STILL waiting for you to report to me your monthly electric bill before and after the Zenn.

I have not seen this months bill yet. About 500 miles on the Zenn so far. I think it would be far more effective to hookup a meter directly to the Zenn's outlet. I should be getting one soon, just trying to find some place that sells a reasonable one.

Given cold weather will adversely affect performance/range of the vehicle, as well as steep hills.

bahahahhaa..

i just checked the last few months bills

i think i need that meter

it also doesn't help until last month we found one of the electric heaters in the house was on downstairs. So when the temperature dropped it turned on. And we picked up the car end of may.

Well if you're getting sub $0.10 per mile with the car, then it's a win. My civic at $1.35 a gallon (The last time I owned a car) was sub 10, and it was a happy place to be. With maintainance and fuel costs, my bike is about 15 - Insurance doesn't affect it too much. The jeep I'm driving now gets 15 mpg and is about as painful to drive as the WRX was at 22mpg (High test only)

toyota axle?

PS: you will die if you drive this thing

I like how they photo-shopped it in to the cityscape picture...what's the point? It's not like there's not plenty of other pictures of the car on the ad.

And yeah, this is pretty much just a "gas prices are so high and OMG AN ELECTRIC CAR ON E-BAY! I MUST BID!" type of phenomenon. They're so enamored with just the prospect of an electric car that they're failing to check whether it's even a worthwhile electric car or not...
