so i noticed some moisture in my carpet one day on the floor board of my civic hatchback on the passenger side. i pulled up the carpet and there's a crack in that tar type stuff that is allowing moisture to come up through the floor boards. is this a serious problem? what could i use to cover the cracks?
 
If you dont allow your car to dry out, or it stays wet for long periods of time in your area it could cause mold. You could really use just about thing to seal the crack. Im sure the auto parts stores in your area have body sealer, but you could try bondo or even windshield silicone too.
 
yeah i was surprised to not find any mold but it's probably becuase my windows are always down so it lets out all the humidity. but to you think that i have a crack in the actual floor board and not just the tar?
 
Sheet metal usually doesnt crack, unless it gets hit with something and stretched until it more or less rips apart, in which case you would see a good sized lump in the floor board. If you cant actually see a crack you might check your heater core, that is if you havent already.
 
Yep heater core could leak but you would know, turn on your heat on full when warmed and if its hot you should be ok. Find the hole, patch it if its big and re-undercoat both sides.

Heat would defiantly still work if there was a leak. In order for the heat to not work he would have to be pouring out coolant, and then he would know.

Easy check, if it's green and tastes a little sweet, then it's antifreeze (don't go drinking it now, just a little wet spot on your finger is good!)

Just get some bathroom silicon or something and rub it around good on the inside and outside. Also rusting through the floor boards will cause it to be wet too.

Sorry i didnt mean the heat wouldnt work i meant that it wouldnt be as hot as it should. Ya you will know its antifreeze, plus its greasy.
 
alright so i found the cause. it's not coming through the floorboards. the floor is rusty but i put the hatch on a lift and theres no cracks or anything. what it is is a flaw in the seal around my windshield. water was leaking through and dripping behind my dash and ending up on the floor! what the fuck. i appreciate everyones advice though
