Okay so im building an ls/vtec and started build from bottom to top (Other then the tranny) I was wondering if their was anything else that i need to do to the block well heres the list..

Block Bore 84mm
Golden Eagle Sleeves
Type R Oil & Water Pump
Type R Timing Belt
CP Pistons
Manley Rods
Micropolished & Balanced Crank
ACL N Calico Bearings
ARP Rod Bolts & Head Studs

Its going to be my project car n i plan on going all out so ima need some help....Will the pistons n rods have to be balanced? Thanks For The Help!

Use OEM Honda bearings. Don't cheap out on the most important part of your build. And save some money by leaving your crank alone. It's already polished and balanced from the factory. Very few shops can duplicate the quality with which Honda does this.

Hi Scott.

This is related to your advice, so I will go ahead and ask and perhaps help myself and the OP out. Would you suggest using MajesticHonda (please feel free to insert the link if you are able to, as I have no clue anymore what the link is) for the bearings? From what I understand, there are quite a few different OEM bearings. How would one go about selecting the proper bearings? Would it be by the block one is rebuilding? Thanks for your help once again my friend.

So Your telling me ACL N Calico Bearings are no good? Im better off using OEM bearings? I've heard about the crank leaving it the way it is but the reason why i wanna balance it n sh!t is cuz i wanna make sure everything on this block will turn out to be real good and the guy gve me this block wit broken sleeves and one of the cylinder walls were cracked so the block was no good and he didnt tell me none of this stuff til i took it to the machine shop and thats when i started rebuilding it...So should i still leave the crank how it is?

Aiight i understand....And i plan on going all out meaning my goal is to reach the 10's thats why i asked if their was anything else on block that i needed everything i stated on the first message is everything that i have in my garage im just waiting for a couple of things...Are the pistons n rods gonna have to be balanced or do they come balanced?

I didn't say they weren't good, I just said that weren't good for Hondas because Honda uses seven different bearing sizes. Aftermarket bearings are sized for Green, Honda's middle bearing size. My rods use the two smallest sizes and Green put them well beyond the factory run-out limit. It could go the other way and Green bearings could be too tight and cause binding. But, more likely than not, your clearances will be all over the board but "within spec". Personally, "within spec" isn't good enough for me. I want an exact clearance.

Look at it this way. How much are you spending on your engine build? Do you really want to risk all of that money to save $130? That's stepping over dollars to save dimes.

Yep, my LS spun an ACL (0.5) and it spit the rod through the block, the motor was rebuilt before I bought it (so the guy told me) he never said he did a piss-poor job on it though.

Aiight Thanks for the help ill see what i'll do....is their anything else needed for the block that you'll recommend me to do?

You know what ur right i just got done lookin at the kit and it does come with it....Thanks For Da Help Anything Else?

Research, research, RESEARCH! I can't tell you how important it is. Ask any of these guys. I've been researching the hell out of my build for eons. Heck, before I posted my first thread, I had been searching on this site and many others for six months to a year, depending on the site. This is a ten year dream I have and let me tell you, there's no way I'm going to blow it up in one day. haha

I really do suggest that you keep on searching around and researching similar builds. After all, LS/VTEC's are a dime a dozen nowadays and you will be able to attain valuable information from other peoples build, as well as ideas and what to and not to do.

That right there is some of the best advice I can give you....unless you can afford to fly Blanco and his wife in, pay him very well and have him help you out...that's as good as it gets right now. :D

Are you sure you're ready to build a 10 second car? No offense, but you seem like this is your first time. You might want to back that goal back quite a bit for your first run through.

I wouldn't say im ready for it cuz truthfully i dont think i am and yes it's the first time....i ride a 13 second car n i know that going from 13 to 10's will be a big difference so when the project is done best believe ill be taking it slow running it with low psi til im used to it....ill research here n there i also got a shop helping me out but i wanna see other peoples opinion in things get what im saying?

I get that, but I think you missed what I was saying. What you're doing means that you aren't ready to build this engine. Pay a shop to do all of it for your or it will blow up.

Ooo My bad yeah all my work is being done at the shop. I wanna make sure i have everything before taking it to the shop get what im saying? i dont know much about building motors im learning little by little but i will not be building my motor. Do you think the block is complete?

had stock bearings and triple nitride traeted crank , in a 721Whp crx drag car , boke alot of stuff but no bearing failures , secondly yes balance the rods and pistons for god sake why go 90% of the way
