I have a 92 CX with a B18B including the tall LS tranny. I'm thinking about getting a B16 transmission or a GSR but I want to be sure that it's going to make a difference. Does anyone have 1/4 times with the LS transmission and with the B16 transmission for me to contrast? Or anyone who made this switch, can you tell me what are the pros and cons. I drive this car everyday so it's not just a track car.

Thanks!

well the b16 tranny is way shorter geared so you will get there faster. so thats good for drag racing but it will suck when it comes to driving on the freeway.

IMO.. go with a GSR tranny.. its known as teh best all around b-series tranny.. shorter than the ls, but longer than the b16.. plus it has a stronger differential than a b16 tranny

This is what I've heard but it looks like 1st and 2nd gear are the same for the LS and GSR so I kind of wanted to use quarter miles times to gauge how big of a difference there was between the three transmissions.

If anyone drive an EG hatch with an LS motor, what 1/4 miles times are you getting with LS, GSR or B16 transmission.

thx.

b16 1st-4th gear same as type R 5th gear different(some lsd some not)
LS just a POS

i have a b16 trans on my ls. and i love it. it would be more fun boosted :)

Have you actually experienced a B16 with a properly-geared transmission? You'd probably love it a whole lot more if you had the short gearing to accompany the motor's characteristics...

try 4k rpms at 70 in 6th for me lol

I'm at that with a 5-speed. This is a DOHC ZC transmission with 4.25 Si FD. I got a 4.437 FD going in though; I guess I better get some dynamat for my car for highway cruises.

I don't have first hand experience but my cousin has; he's had a ITR, LS, and B16 transmission on his LS/VTEC. From what he says: "The ITR is quick but you do a lot of shifting and it feels like you're not going anywhere". The LS; "feels like I'm driving my dad's truck, gears are too long", and B16; "it's better than the ITR, feels like it's actually moving now when you shift into the next gear".

i dont see how the b16 tranny is better than the ITR.. they're the same gearing and f.d. (USDM ITR at least).. only difference is the LSD.. but the JDM ITR had the 4.7 final rather than the 4.4 final..

You read it wrong... He has a B16 tranny on his LS motor...

Well, an FD does make a big difference when you're racing. That's what he liked about the B16; shifts don't come too quickly yet the gear spacing is still great. I guess you can say this means less shifting(he drag races btw) but you're still in your powerband.

Also, I don't remember exactly so don't quote me on this; but a couple of guys were getting better ETs by switching from a 4.7 or 4.9 to a 4.4. The 4.7 and up seem to be biased towards autoX or road course.
