Gotta Civic Ex. Saved it from a retard who actually molested the CF hood with Paint. Got the Car and now I want to Give her the TLC she deserves. Im a shady tree body repair kinda guy so engines are my weak side. Can anyone tell me where I should start? I thought about ripping the D16z6 out and find a k20 or h22a to put in. as you can see i like power but im on a budget? can I build a fast d16? I want like 300-400hp

i wouldnt shoot for high numbers like that with stock internals, but i think it can be done if you build it from bottom up.

yeah, the stock internals for B series engines are much better & stronger than those in D engines. If you have the money, i would recomend a swap but if you are trying to build it up i would stay with the D series because it is cheaper to replace if u blow it up

300hp to 400hp isnt that hard on a d16, Ive seen d16 with mid 600hp, Just fully build the D unless you have 5 grand for a swap and another 2 maybe 3 grand for a decent turbo setup. Just tear the motor down and do a complete rebuild, vitara pistons, tuner toy rods, then atleast a mild port and 5 angle valve job on the head, stage 3 clutch, then slap a t3/t4 turbo and your at your numbers, for about $3500 total. less if you can kind some good prices on parts

& an upgraded ECU, otherwise it would be dead in 6 months

wow since you have no clue wtf you talking about dont post anymore just learn.

He has a 95 which still makes him obd1, there is no upgrade to the ecu that he needs to do. thats done by a tuner who knows what hes doing. they will pull your ecu out and put a new burnable chip in it. Then tune the car so the fuel and timing maps are up to par with the new amount of power your putting out with the motor.

I didn't go into detail with a turbo set up but if you decide to go that route you are going to need

turbo, turbo manifold, down pipe, high flow cat, cat back exhaust, wastegate, bov, boost controller, intercooler, intercooler piping, intercooler piping clamps, oil feed and return lines for the turbo, larger injectors around 550cc or 660 cc, vacuum lines, misc t fittings, boost gauge, The stage 3 clutch like i mentioned above.

How you car runs afterwards depends on how competently you rebuild the motor, and how good of a job your tuner does tuning the car.

btw I have a t3/t4 5bolt stainless steel 3" downpipe with flex pipe for sale, pm if interested

wow, touchy touchy
anytime you turbo a car, its a good idea to get it tuned to prevent engine damage, sorry if i didnt word that correctly

Its mandatory, your car will not even start with larger injectors in if you are still running the stock fuel and timing bins

Btw, sry I didn't mean to be a dick, rough day I quit smoking yesterday so I'm really edgy

t3t4 you are pretty much right but a chipped ecu is still and upgrade
yes you can build a 300 to 400 hp d series but it won't be streetable really, 250hp is generally accepted as the limit to a stock d series that will last any amount of time .( yes people have gone above that on all stock motors with a greatly shortened motor life ) do you really want or need a 400hp street civic ? plan ahead , research ,over build it slightly , tune it to a lower power level learn to drive it then tune it higher later . a 400 hp front wheel drive can be a real handful to drive

Honestly, if you are on that tight of a budget, stick with the D16. Build and boost it. With the right parts and a good tune, 400 whp is easily had. It has been done.
