I have the option to buy a 1998 Integra LS for dirt cheap, only problem is its slow compared to what im used to.

I want to swap out the engine so i have a strong base to go on, im hoping to get somewhere around 180-190hp without a turbo while still getting good gas milage if thats possible.

Im brand new at this so any help would be much appreciated even if its just a web site where i can go to do some research.

Money is not something im concerned about if i have to save up to do a swap if its worth it thats what i will do.

I just want to know what motors will work in the integra and what there specs are, along with what an engine swap takes to do.

You could get a B18C5 which is a Type R engine and make almost that right off the bat.

say i did get the b18c5 about how much would that cost, and what could i do to that engine to improve torque.

you could put a B18 head on a B20 block & get great torque (after some careful tuning)

lol your talkin about a honda... do b20 vtec and get a good tune. but be prepared to upgrade internals, they are said to have weaker sleeves but i dont know for sure

another possiable option for high torque is a K24, i dont know how well that would swap in, but it would be a show stopper in my opinion

i am fairly new to this site's post as well, however i do think that the b18c5 (type r) would be an option that you could be happy with. the only swap i have done (with an old buddy patrick's help) was a single cam zc running off a chipped '89 si harness. i think the b18c5 would cost considerably more.

what kind of power are you used to?

well ive ownd all american made cars up to this point anywhere from 350hp on up to 400 but heavy as hell im lookin for something quick (doesnt have to be a 10 second car by any mean just something that gets up and goes, i figure if i get 200hp or so as a base to start off of over the years i can build it up and wont kill me on gas.

nah my grand prix was a gt but i did put an eaton m90 supercharger header back exhaust and cold air intake still nothin to special tho, i just got it as a daily driver when i got rid of the camero

well depending on what kind of money & time you want to put into the project it is possiable to get those numbers out of a honda, anything B series is possiable and with some modification any K series engine could work. The B series woule be cheaper but the K series is newer technology & has more potential

For that kind of power I would say swap the pistons and bump-sticks. Say 81.5 CTRs from Nippon, some all-motor camshafts, and all the necessary parts to keep it from blowing up (new pumps, ARP hardware, maybe new bearings depending on the condition of the motor). May fall slightly short of the goal, but you could always try to port the head yourself too. Worse case scenario you buy another LS head of eBay for $50.

Just my .02.

ok i want a good base engine that over time i can add on to, (ex. a turbo intake exhaust etc) if i get the b18c5 i heard that the compression isnt right to turbo it, is there a better engine i could get that would have similar horsepower stock, that i would be able to add a turbo to i want something that i have the potential to build up in the future.

if you are wanting to make a build out if it just replace the pistons to get the right compression for a turbo. i couldnt reccomend a type to get but im sure someone on here could

For what you want to do, the best route is just to go ahead and turbocharge the engine with a small turbo. That way you'll have more than your 180-190whp goal, and you'll have the low end torque that you want.

To build a Honda engine with 180-190whp before adding boost is going to be difficult. You don't want to go the all motor route to get to that power level, then back up and put on a turbo. It just doesn't work that way. You could- but you have to know what you're doing and know how to tune really well.

The engine that comes stock in the 98 LS is probably the best for what you want to do. It's tough, it's cheap, and it's easy to strap on a turbo for great power and good low-end torque (if you size it right). Anything that gets you to 180whp without boost is going to involve higher compression pistons and/or camshafts that aren't good for boost at all.

I just wanted to say thank you for all of the advice.
so if i ever wanted to turbo the engine i should probably go with the b18b1 as opposed to the b18c1 becuase of the compression correct? Is there any newer engines that i would be able to swap into the LS that would be better.
