I know its not the ecu because i ve used 3 diffrent ones and all the same. in order to keep it from doing it. i have to shut the car off. count the 3. turn it back on and keep on going. and it clears out. Engine codes are showing. but all just sensors. the car randomly does this to where at 3k it sounds like its hitting the rev limiter.

plus i dont know if this has anything to do with it.

one more thing. do vtec pinouts exsist in a 92 dx hatchback dash harness?

Your problem could be a number of things. But my first suggestion to you is to get rid of all of those butt connectors. Solder all of your wires and heat shrink them. You could have a bad connection somewhere that is giving you intermittent problems. Take care of that first then if the car throws any more codes you have a place to start to find the problem.

Regardless of whether the CEL codes are serious or not, you need to address them. It sounds to me like the car's in limp mode, which is what happens when you've got one or more error codes in the ECU...

first of all i would take care of that wiring... but another thing it could be is the pick-ups in the distributor could be bad or damaged... happened on mine.. 3k rev limiter. replaced dizzy and good to go.. best of luck

i just saw the title and got sad. rev limiter at 3k.. that's depressing. i have no tech input to the situation though ;)

Is it throwing a crank sensor code?

Try switching you dizzy with a good one.
I had the same problem it took me months to find out it was the dizzy.

What car do you have?

i just had this problem with my b16 in my eg. it was because i didnt have a map sensor hooked up. yours could be bad. i would find a friend whos you can use to see if thats the problem before buying one. they are costly

actually we got three or four of them laying around the "shop" But i just got done with swapping the harness out. still does it. but its not re accruing as much now. only on start up. another thing is. im not sure. im going to have it check out tomorrow. I believe the p28 i have is also a auto p28. not the manual.

one more thing. when running a code scanner on it. where are the hook ups for the scanner? i ve been looking at it and really cant tell. some people tell me "oh theres alittle plug some where in there" others are like " naah you have to has some kind of jumper wire that blinks and it gives you your code"

Yeah that actually helped alot.

alright so heres the code list.

4 - Crankshaft Position Sensor
6 - Engine Coolant Sensor
19 - Lock-Up Control Solenoid Valve A/B (A/T)
21 - Vtec Solenoid Valve

so. i know why the vtec code is showing. as well as the engine coolant. but code 4 and 19. im not so sure all about. any pointers?

The CPS is in the dizzy, if it goes bad the dizzy is junk. And the lock-up code is for a auto tranny, is your car auto or manual?

is your car auto or manual?

started off as an auto. but some one converted it to manual leaving a crappy harness. but never fear. i finshed their job and made it a complete manual harness.
now lets not forget. The ecu is probably a auto p28.

nah that rat's nest wiring. is a no more. its all a very nice manual harness. no splicing.

Well thats good, there is a way to check if your ECU is a manual or auto from the code on it but I forget where I seen the write up for it.

I knew he was gunna get the "Crankshaft Position Sensor"!!!
Even though you have other problems too change that damn dizzy.
That will probably get rid of the rev limiter problem.
