Ok so I've been reading around here on HS, is scanning for a code, a tool?
Someone explain?
I googled it, is it a little unit that plugs up to the ECu or something and shows info from the ECU regarding errors such as check engine light, etc?
And how much does one generally cost and what is a good unit (company)?

save your money, unless you work on cars all day long there is no need to buy one. Just take you car into autozone and tell them you need a obd scan to check you codes, they will do it for free.

that or just get a paper clip and count them yourself

I swear, I LOVE my car because of that. I had to do that years ago and was doing the happy dance that I didn't have to take it to a freakin' shop and pay $50 just for them to tell me what I thought was wrong already.

Honda's for the win. SWOOSH!

The only reason I like having OBD0 is because of how easy it is to check codes.
