Whats up guys. Just joined and this is my first post. I bought an '88 Crx HF with a SI tranny and a D16Y8 engine. I recently threw a rod and am looking for the easiest swap possible. I've been told the D15B is exactly the same as the D16Y8. Is this true? What other options are there? Again I'm looking for the easiest swap possible. How do these 2 engines compare? Appreciate the help.

yea thats true there perty much the same, the d15b has just like 3 hp more. what state are you in ?

I'm in Flagstaff, AZ. So you are saying it really makes no difference if I get another D16Y8 or go with the D15B? Everything will match up perfectly?

yea there perty much the same but just make sure you stick to the same obdo..is your car converted to obd2 ?

well the y8 motor is a obd2 motor so it could be still that or they may have converted it to obd1, look and see what ecu is running it

I'm sorry I'm new at this. What does obdo stand for? Do you know where I can find the ecu in the car?

you have a *lot* of reading to do before you consider a swap.

ecu location: under passenger carpet:

obd: onboard diagnostics. 0,1,2 = versions, if you will.

you are definitely right that I have a lot of research to do first. That's why I joined this site. My ecu looks exactly like the one pictured. Thanks for the definition I'm new to the lingo

another question, when pulling the motor can you pull it separately from the tranny or do you have to pull it all as one piece? If I separate them I can only move the motor over about an inch, will this be enough clearance for the bearings and clutch? if you pull it as a whole how do you take off the drive axle? Thanks

I don't know how many people have told me they bought their car with an LsVtec setup. They pop their hood and its a d15b7, or another single cam motor. A lot of people never take the time to figure out what they bought and just want to brag.
