Damn, that's some shit. It almost froze my computer looking at those too. Piece of...I'll revisit it when I get to work in a few.

chernobyl aside...nuclear energy has a pretty good safety record.

this thread is in no way a put down on nuclear energy

im all for nuclear energy

its just amazing (in a tragic sense) what happened over there

i agree, it just seems that chernobyl is the reason america is lacking in the nuclear power we should have. chernobyl scares people.

1986.
few of us own cars this old.

computers? 2kb of ram cost $4000.

technology is millions of times better than it was back then.

If we could build it then (and even in the 70's and 60's too...), we can certainly do it now.

Those pics are amazing, I would love to go see the place in person, I love exploring abandoned buildings, its really kind of neat to see what gets left behind.

I understand that as they are contaminated from the radiation. There was an old hotel from the 60s/70s that from the inside looked like everyone dropped what they where doing and left. I found a diary from a Korean war vet that he kept while he was in the war that has what he saw and did every day. Stuff like that is really cool to me.

yup. they offered a weeks pay for 15 min of work on the sarcophogus. They gave them fire suits, not radiation suits.

reason #342343242 why USSR sucks

Still. USSR>California

Lulz. They're definitely on their way to becoming the new Soviet Republik. I hope to travel to Riga with my cousin though, and just see the whole area. I bet Chernobyl is just eerie as hell.

The picture of the classroom reminds me of Children of Men.

And the last picture is kind of amazing all by it self. You can read a lot into that one picture.

Chernobyl was the first in many links that exposed the corruption in the USSRs government. then they fell and the corruption was all over the place.

I was over in russia last summer and still there are no clear cut laws in booksthe cops can pull you over and see if you're doing anythign wrong

I hear Moscow is the most expensive place to live in the world right now.
