Hi guys. At last I managed to buy this car and I 'm new to all this. My knowledge on mechanics is limited and I would like some of your wisdom. The car is wearing a b18c jdm motor with some mods. It has an integra type r intake butterfly that goes to a blox intake manifold (excuse my english). Regulated cogwheels by [AEM]. JDM type r camshafts and a 4-2-1 (original jdm honda) front to back with twin loop mugen style exhaust. [Fydanza] flywheel. OBD1 reprogrammed. I use Denso IK22 spark plugs. The tranny is from the english integra with a quick shift installed. Compression is set to 11.5.
Νow the questions :
1) It burns oil... I mean with normal drive until 4000 rpm it burns about 1 litre every 2000km. Is this normal? If I push it burns even more...I use Castrol magnatec 10-40.
2) Redline is at 8800 with vtec engaging at 5500. After 7800 it kind of losses power...any suggestions?
3) overall what do you thing...? Any suggestions? Any changes for the better?
I really like the car...I want to make it run nicely.
Thanks guys in advance for any help.

Anyone? I hope I didn't bore everyone with all the talk....I really want to know if the oil burning is a problem... and what could be causing it...Any opinions would be appreciated...

1. the rings sound like there shot the motor should not be burning oil

2. the motor will not make power that high in the rpm range unless you have cams

3.sounds like it needs a rebuild

AHHVTEC thanks my friend. From the posts I already looked at you seem to know your stuff, so your opinion counts....Although I didn't quite understand what you said especially in no1 but I'll see what I'll do...U upset me though...rebuild.....arghhhh no money....

1) If i post a photo of the engine will u be able to help any more?
2) How much would a rebuild cost in the US...? so I can calculate how much would cost where I'm...
3) The guy that worked on it said that the car can give more especially in th high range if we change the the whole exhaust system with a handmade larger at least at the beginning. I've read and understood that there are 2 setups... 4-1 and 4-2-1 with the first producing more power at high rpms and the second sacrificing some top end for the mid range....Anyone with personal xp ???

id say a simple little tear down and tune up job should help you get to the bottom of all that jazz. good luck and remember...if you need to know it, its prolly on hondaswap. }=)

well what i mean is if your burning oil he oil is getting into the combustion chamber from somewhere and to me it sounds like the piston rings are bad, and letting the oil get by and into the combustion chamber

Yeah I now know what you 're saying. Thank you both for all the help. See I liked the car from the moment I saw it, so I want to make it better. U know I don't know if it's a good number but in miles it goes about 145-147 in it's current condition with the rpm in the 8000 range. I feel like it can go more with a bit tuning. I have the feeling that the programming is holding it back a bit. I'm gonna do something about that and the oil. Also I want to go from 15 to 16 inches on wheels for better cornering without much loss in acceleration. The only prob is that I'm short on cash right know :p...

Oh a little bit more info:
Chassis : '98 Civic coupe US model with 2000 facelift done to it.
Engine : B18C GSR (JDM)
Transmission : Integra UK 's model (with a mod in 5th gear).
Brakes : Integra front and back with larger disk in front (288mm)
Sway bars : Front and back, up and down (4 total)

Is it any good to add an oil box to the engine so the oil fumes won't go in to the induction?

AHHVTEC I couldn't make my way through the chaos about cams...(being new and all) so what cams should I look for so I can use the extra rpm's after 7800... (Skunk 2?) I'm supposed to have itr jdm cams on right now.And because some I know once said "The can't be only gain from a mod..loss is always following it". If I try to gain HP in the high range where will I lose? Mid torque& hp? Fuel cons. too high? Valve springs and retainers a must? and also a re-tune I guess?

just make sure its a good name brand skunk2 will be fine and yes you will need Valve springs and retainers. just get a good stage 2 cam and a good intake manifold with a new throttle body. get rid of those buttleflies. you will lose bottom end power but you will gain top end

So blox ain't that good intake manifolds? U think I should change it? or it just ain't good enough for stage 2?

I've used BLOX on many B series builds, they are good. Why are you upgrading to Stage 2? ITR Cams are good. Very aggressive cam. I'd go CTR before going with an aftermarket brand.

Red line is at 8800 rpm my friend and after 7500-7800 I lose power. Read the thread from the beginning and if you can help I would appreciate it a lot.

I do know this. I have seen many B-series builds with a BLOX IMs. Matter of fact reference to this article: DragSport.com - DSport Magazine - Cover Story - Home Grown

BLOX Makes great IM's Cams and Valve train components for the B series. If you already have one, I'd keep it. Replace the rings on the pistons to fix the oil burn problem. Also check the maps on your ECU. It is possible that the tune is all wrong. If it is tuned properly you shouldn't be loosing power.

I see my friend.Very interesting info indeed. If it can work on such output then it's must be ok. I too believe there something wrong with the programming. The program I was told that is almost the same as the jdm type r integra. I'm guessing that not much work was done to it.
1) Is it possible to lose power from the piston rings (cause oil goes in there)?
2) Or From the exhaust that I have on right now?
3) From your xp would an oil box do any good. (So the oil fumes won't go to the intake)?

PS: Does anyone know online shops where can I get quality head & tail lights for my car or quality brands? (I was scared away a lot when many people I asked told me not to go for angel eyes because the quality is horrible...)

Hi guys. Back after a long time.... well I send the car back and there was a problem allright.... there was a broken piston...(how can a piston break?) Anyway there where scratches on the cylinder so we had to oversize a bit.(0.25 I think). All new motor now. It was cleaned, rings , pistons , piston springs , almost everything on the main block is new. Now I should be getting a power increase am I right? The only think I haven't done yet is reprogram the ECU. Anyway the car runs ok. no oil burning. But it lost power on low to mid rpm...no nerve as before. The v-tec is tuned to 5500rpm but even though the sound changes the small kick comes at around 6000-6200. Can all this be from the ECU? how many hp would I gain with a good prog? (I've seen a b16 gain 25 hp). My xp is small but I don't think that the car boosts more than 170-180 hp after 6000rpm and until 7500. the rev limiter is at 8800rpm. Could I be loosing power to something else? The setup of the car is the same as in the beggining of the post.Something I didn't mention is that (I don't know exactly how it's named in english) the ''head cap'' is lowered as to increase compression.

simply because you hear a change is not indication that a power increase must coem with it. the sound change you hear is the valves alowing more air and fuel into it, however, the power increase is when you hit yoru powerband. The engine is in vtec but not runnign at its max efficiency till the 6000 rpm range where you FEEL it. Get the car dyno tuned for max results. and by head cap do you mean cylinder head? you had it milled? B series motors are notorious for having a lack of torque especialy the b16 but your lack of tq may be simply the motor choice. id have the car dyno tuned and have the vtec set a bit higher to say 6000 and see what happens

Thank u my friend but I was right. There is something wrong. After some searching with my mechanic we found out that the one of the cogwheels and to be more specific the one of the frond cam (is it called outtake cam??) is far off... about 10 degrees to + while it should be to 0. Tomorrow I will go get it tuned and I will update u guys.

Well guys it was what we suspected. The intake CAM was the one that needed to be tuned. The car runs pretty good. But I have a question... I don't know if it can be answered though. How does someone know how many degrees??? should one give to the CAMS when they have adjustable cogwheels?? Is there a specific value? And what is the best avance? 16 is the factory setting if I'm not mistaken. I've heard that 17 to 175 is better...is that true?

(about the timing of the cams).
Sorry guys but I red in an article that no more than 4 degrees on the intake cam. What about the other? do I leave it at 0?
No one has any experience in this?
