Genetics and Eye Color?

Does anyone know anything about eye color and the genetics associated with it? I'm just wondering cuz my mom's eye color is yellow, my dad's is blue, and mine is, well I guess not green, but both? Anyway, if anyone know anything about genetics, I'm interested.

My mom's are the yellow, same color and everything, and then I guess I'll just put my pick up and see. My eyes are usually bluer than that, but I just wanted to see what kind of ideas people would have. I asked my biology teacher and he said he's never even heard of yellow eyes.

eye color is just that it cant be passed on so you could have 2 blued eyed parents and you could get brown. its just how the cookie crumbles

I know that, but does anyone know specifics about recessive and dominant genes and why yellow eyes are so rare and all that? Someone's gotta know about genetics around here....

Blue eyed people have a single ancestor approx. 10,000 years ago due to a mutation that set a melanin switch halfway. On produces darker eyes, off causes albinism.

Mine are sometimes really blue and other times a very gray blue. But yea my parents, 2 sisters, and I are blue. My little brother is green. We always joke that the mailman must have green eyes too.

Looks similar to my eyes. Mine are actually a mixture of yellow, brown, and specks of green. I have always found this topic fascinating. Must be so boring in those parts of the world where they get only dark brown eyes.

Nope. That's my favorite eye color for a guy. I had a bf with violet eyes once. Only time over I've seen that eye color....

I heard a theory that said that the anti-pigment gene spread because people with it were seen as more attractive, therefore facilitating reproduction.

Also, has anyone noticed that people with lighter eyes generally seem to have less pigment in their skin as well? Its a double-edged sword.

Well the gene is linked to melanin production, so it makes sense.

The lack of pigment makes it easier for the body to absorb Vitamin D from sunlight. This isn't a problem where the sun is always beating down, but further away from the equator, it's a different story.
