I have a 91 ef dx with the d15b2 and it recently got hit and I have to give it to the insurance company. It had a really good motor in it and I swaped it out with a P.O.S. oil burning motor so I could have a good spare motor. I hate to be a bastard and do this to a Honda but how can I make it burn as little oil as possible so they won't notice the change? I feel sooooo terrible actually letting that thing run but I need it gone quick. Thanks

Change the head gasket and Piston rings if needed, Its kind of hard to just make it "stop" burning oil

I was just gonna say run some thick thick stuff in it. Lucas oil is pretty good too, for patching. Ive heard it helps all around tho, even healthy engines. Good luck.

How are they going to notice the change? I doubt that they have the condition of your engine written down, or that they even care. Maybe the hit caused some engine damage too. If you have to give the car to the insurance company, that usually means that you totaled it- and in that case, they're just going to junk it anyway.

They aren't going to drive it away, they're going to pull it up on a flatbed and dump it in a junk yard. the guy picking up the car is subcontracted, and doesn't give a flying crap what the car looks like or has in it. It doesn't even have to run, kill the battery to dead flat and tell em something must have shorted out in the wreck. That is, if he even tries to start it. Turn the headlights on and walk away.

The Bardahl worked fine for me. The instructions said to use half the bottle for 4 cylinder engines and I used the whole thing. It runs really good for such a bad oil burning engine, if you didn't notice the smoke you'd say its a perfectly good car. I wonder how much it would smoke with the whole engine filled up with that crap. LOL, thanks anyway.

If the car is totaled, insurance companies I can only assume they could care less. They have to give you what it was worth before the accident so you are not at loss after the accident and are able to purchase a comparable vehicle. They use stuff like NADA or their own hybrid version of it to determine what it is worth. When my car was totaled due to hail they did not start it, drive it or anything. If your car is totaled due to an accident then its obvious that they would be unable to do this anyways.

I have bought 2 of my three cars of with write-off money, including the integra. The system works.

I got $3800 for my daytona that i bought for only $2000. It was however in good condition.

Also good. Sometimes having insurance pays off. Its so damn expensive, why must i be a male under 25. I pay $250 a month for only liabilty. My GF pays under $200 for FULL coverage on a 06.

are you really 14? just wondering...

Wow. I pay $200 a month for full coverage on the S2000, plus liability on the truck and the Civic too... and I live in a higher risk area.

for a 00 civic ex (four door) i pay $200, for an 04 odyssey i pay $120. the price of insurance has more to do with how often that vehicle is stolen than driving record/age/sex/location/etc. the same goes for liability, even though in the case of a theft they pay nothing. maybe it's just to make up the cost of letting Calesta get away with a $200 payment on two hondas and a truck...

Heh. That's actually high. The amount of theft doesn't matter unless you have theft coverage. Location and driving record matter a LOT more than theft rate.

When my 89 dx got stolen I got $2600 from AAA and I got the car for free. All the aftermarket parts that I had in it cost me about 2 geez and I bought it back from AAA for $107.64. The car still ran but it needed all new struts and seats it cost me about 200 bucks from the junkyard sold the car for 800 to some tweeker. :D
