I just bought an 11ft. Burmese Python today- I stopped and bought him 2 rats for dinner. I got home threw a rat in the cage and then i stood and held the other rat. There were about 10 guys standing around the cage waiting for the feeding in our small hallway. The snake came lunging full speed at me because he wanted the rat i had in my hand. He bit me twice as i was trying to get away-- he also left a tooth IN MY LEG!!,... I slammed my knee into the side of the cage when i was trying to get away but there were too many people everywhere and i was cornered, i tore my shit up! I named the snake Charley when i first got him- but i renamed him Lecter like the cannibal man. He tried to eat my legs!! I know he's not really a cannibal- just carnivorous, but it makes me feel better to call him that-

I'm not trying to be a smart ass so don't take this the wrong way but do you even know how to own/care/feed a snake? You're not supposed to just throw food in it's cage. Your supposed to take him out of his cage and put him in a sack or other type of dark enclosure(sp?) with it's meal already in there. That way everytime you take the snake out it's cage or just want him out the cage chillin, the snake doesn't go striking at random things.

Yes i do know this. We just got him today and we really had nothing to put him in. We have 2 kittens so i was too afraid of taking him out of the cage he came in. The guy i bought the snake off of has fed it in the same cage almost it's whole life, when i went to see the snake we were pulling him out of his cage constantly, he didn't mind it at all. I also was not dangling it, i was standing a good 2 feet away cupping the rat in my hand. I guess he smelled the one i had. I have already been told to have a separate feeding area and such, but we have no place for that just yet... i learned my lesson. We are also not so familiar with 11 foot snakes, the other snake we have is only 1 foot.. I am afraid of him now..

The cage he came with is way way to small to for him to be in permanently, its a foot tall, foot wide, and about four feet long. Im going to build him a terrarium that is properly sized for him and use the box he came in as his "feed box" he is still young enough to learn he doesnt get fed in his terrarium, that he gets fed somewhere else. That way he is cool to hang out around people.

why did you buy a snake if you werent prepared?

when i first saw this thread i thought you were talking about your boyfriend

Ill be building him his permanent cage tomorrow, we werent really sure if we were even going to get it in the first place, but after seeing what a good looking snake it was we couldnt pass it up for the price. There was just too many people making too much noise and movement and the snake reacted to it.

that snake could kill you very easily and it seems like you guys have no idea what your doing and you bought the snake because you think its kEwL....

the guy sold it to you for a reason... its too big. i would donate it to a zoo.

be careful, once that snake wraps around you it will take at least 10 people to get it off before it kills you.

Ive always been an animal lover, but yeah its not like you can take it for walks in the park, teach it to do tricks and such, its still a pretty cool pet though.

i wouldve killed that big bastard, that snake just looks mean, and i agree he wasnt going for the rat in your hand, its completely obvious from where he bit you that he was going for the kitty

I've had snakes since I was 11 years old. you can't just jump from having a one foot long ball, or a cornsnake, to an 11 foot burm. you WILL get hurt. it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. it's not an animal you get because it's a cool pet, it's an animal you get because you enjoy the kind of animal it is - but you have to accept the fact that it's not tame, and never will be. You need to sell it to someone that really knows how to do it, before you get hurt or one of your kittens comes up missing. Or do a shitload of homework and fast. This is the kind of animal that deserves respect, and if you don't give it respect, then it will settle for fear.

Just be careful....and good luck. I would've bought it a heartbeat, it's a beauty =)

My friends breed Ball Pythons. I thought they said most Pythons are very cautious about what they bite. I guess it was just the Balls. They've been breeding them for years and only Mike has been bit. He was literally seeing if a small Ball would bite. He didn't do anything bad but like waving his hand in front of its face and stuff. He learned they will.

Then my friend Fernando has 2 Balls. Monty and Mitch. Obviously very original names.... Monty is a bitch but if you let Mitch sit on your neck it would give a great massage.

Your friend Fernando has 2 Balls..:D Ha Ha that's pretty funny. The guy told me that Burmese Pythons are more temperamental than Ball Pythons.. I think he's right or at least with this one cause the one i bought is an ass hole-
