This isn't ricing in the purest sense, but i figured it's worth sharing. Plus i'm really bored and have nothing better to do at the present moment. Anyway, back in the early 80s my mom had an AMC Gremlin. One day, for shits and giggles she decided to take the 4X4 badges off of her dad's jeep that was rusting away in the backyard, and put it on said econobox. I don't know if she thought people would actually believe it's 4wd (considering she once got the car stuck all 4 wheels off the ground going over a curb), But what's even funnier is people actually did. They asked her all the time "how'd you get a 4 wheel drive gremlin?" The idea's just laughable to me, that people would actually believe it.

But anyway, I figured it'd be nice to share a story about rice badging in it's genesis.

haha...that's sweet. I should try putting a V6 badge on my EG sedan and see if people buy it. :D I'd go for a V8 badge, but that may be too much of a stretch.

maybe lol. But yeah that story made me laugh. The gremlin was a great car for what it was, but offroader? Not a chance

The worst i've seen was an eclipse coupe with spyder badging. (nobody told him spyder means convertible)

haha...now THAT is funny. Ignorance is bliss. :D

I know. i laughed real hard at that one. but i guess maybe he thought it was a trim level.

Gremlin body on a Samurai chassis, that would be sick. You would have a go-anywhere-Gremlin.

unless its the civette ;)

I saw a Mitsubishi mirage re badged as a Caddy ... i have a picture

wow... I want to see that. I imagine if it was painted a deep color with some cadillac rims at first glance it could look like a catera.... but i don't think that's the look they were going for.

well then again. with my acura wheels and lack of badges on my civic. I was asked if my car is an older style acura. I told the lady um. no, its a 94 civic with integra wheels. She stared at my car and just kinda went. Nuh huh. i simply drove off.

Right. Don't believe the guy that owns the car. I once saw a Geo storm with bmw wheels. didn't look terrible. but the car ran really shitty. Guy should've had his priorities in order.

Put the v4 badge on it from the Honda Intruder/VFR.

One of my girlfriend's dorm-mates said he had a honda civic with a 1.6L v4 engine. She called him out on it. I almost died laughing.

Oh I didnt even tell you the best part lol. He had a ricer muffler from Auto Zone on it as well.. I used to have a 91 S10, 5spd, 4x4 ext cab, with the 4.3 V6. This kid had i think a 3.0 v6 or something around there and he wanted to race me because he thought that muffler added 50HP (no joke) so we decided to run them down the high way 1 night and after i hit 3rd gear and he was maybe 3 cars back and i let off cause we were coming up on traffic. Well he accepeted defeat, and then he decided to return the muffler cause it didnt do the job he wanted it to.

My favorite sticker (not quite as stupid as re-badging, but I still laugh) was on a Jeep Rubicon - all decked out with roll bars, Hella lights everywhere, Warn winch, lifted, 36" tires, etc. etc.

I got out of my car and right at eye level on the side of the jeep was a small, subtle sticker: "H2 Recovery Team"

I laughed for 5 minutes out in the parking lot.

I had a chevy bowtie on the front of my civic for a few days. It fell off my buddy's old tahoe when he hit a deer. It made people look twice. Then the bowtie fell off my car going down the road and I thought I broke something.

What, never heard of the offroad package? http://www.4x4offroads.com/74-gremlin-body-on-a-74-jeep-frame.html

It was a joint effort between AMC and Mercedes.
