My name is Byron.
We had a little party tonight, I got pretty hammered, and still am.But This random kid showed up and we started talking about UFC and we sparred up. The kid said for being drunk that I had great potential. So Im going to start traininng to be a cage fighter. Im so stoked. Any comments are welcome, wether being positive or negative.

i love to fight myself. i just dont have the time it takes to go in to something like that.

mma is awesome,my friend does it(training to go into the cage)
i would love to do it,jsut wouldnt know where tto begin

Conditioning, strength training, and martial arts lessons. :)

And the discipline to stick through all of it. If you are serious about wanting to do MMA competitively you are going to have to eat sleep and breath it.

speaking on mma, did you guys see emerson knock out gamburyan 12 secs into round 1 last night? that was a quickie.

word that was awesome

I have no problem with fighting, haven't had to do it i ages but the last guy I fought never even landed on me, it was bang bang, takedown, elbows and my friend pulled me off him.

that being said I would never be in MMA

The difference

I'll fight normal people, I'll fight people bigger then me (this usually isn't an option at 5'5"). But I'm not the kinda guy who would look at BJ Penn and say "I want to fight him", that's the difference between sane people, and mixed martial artists.

MMA is fun. I got out of it a year ago. I want to get back into it here in Georgia.

Get ready for the workout of your life Byron. There is nothing that will gas you out and work you better then MMA. I speak from expirience.

Since you're young you'll heal quick which is good. Buy hand wraps, ear guards, a mouth piece and some MMA gloves.

I don't know what the gym you will be training at requires, gi or no gi. I used to roll with no gi. Get yourself a cup too.

You will learn some really crazy stuff man. Go get some.

When it comes to anything like this, only advice I can give you is to make sure you don't get into it without a bulldog attitude. I've jumped into many of things without the right mindset and failed.

He's still face down recovering I bet haha.

My friend just started at a Gracie school in Chicago. I would do it but my mother is against it, so while I'm still living at home it's a no no.

I'd love to get into a "fight club" for normal every day joes. Just to kick ass and get my ass kicked every once in a while without worrying about having my stuff fucked with or being stabbed/shot.

everyone has 'potential'... If you've never thought about it on your own, IMO, you'll never get the mindset it takes to go at it 100%

People get 'introduced' to MMA all the time but 99% of the time they are already doing some aspect of MMA i.e. boxing, muay thai, wrestling, bjj, ect... You on the other hand just beat up druggies that walk into apartments lol...

I did muay thai for a year but I moved an hour and a half away from where my training center was at. i was only 14 (holy shit 10 years ago! time flies and i'm getting old :( ) at the time so I couldn't drive back and forth :( and when I first moved to where I am now, they had ZERO Muay Thai gyms. Hell, one just opened up in my area like 4 months ago lol. They had one Shoalin(sp?) Kung-Fu dojo and one Tae Kwon Do dojo. No disrespect to those arts but they just aren't my thing...

I plan on starting muay thai again by the end of this year but I can't get competetive in it :( I got a very sensitive nose and the clotting time of my blood is poor :( I can scratch my nose too hard and it'll start gushing blood  :(

Taekwondo is great defense.

I held off 4 guys at one time with no fighting knowledge except for taekwondo. I did no damage to them, but they did no real damage to me either. Hard fighting for about a minute and a half before it was broken up. (which translates to roughly a day and a half when fighting that many people at one time)

That, and they'll teach you alot about falling. I've never broken a bone in my life, and I credit that to the few months that I took Taekwondo as a kid.

I'm getting back into shape so that when I move out I can start it up.

Like it was said before, I started with another discipline (wrestling) which makes me very aware of my surroundings while on the ground.I'm not sure if I'll be competitive but it's not a terrible way to stay in shape and let out some aggression. And if I learn how to not get mixed up while outside the gym, that would always be a plus.

I never realized how hard it was for wrestlers to not belly-out. I went with my uncle (my aunt's husband) and my little cousins (his kids) at Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Torrance for his first session and he was a wrestler back in high school and college and when ever he would end up on the bottom he would belly-out really quick. He was rolling with Rickson Gracie's 15 year old son and he had to keep telling him not to give up his back. It was like a bad habit that he could not break and I could see the frustration on his face...

Best way to break the habit is to get punched in the back of the dome a few times. I don't belly out anymore.

Im not sure that I would even want to fight in the cage, but I would like to go to the gym and learn some stuff, and help me get in better shape.

Take a traditional martial art and get the spiritual benifit as well. :)
True statement. There is a kid that fights professionally that I know. He has no discipline at all. He gets into more drunken brawls in a month then I have in my life.

That's the crap that made me stop watching TUF. Just a bunch of out-of-control asshats that give everything a bad name.
Yea. But there is also a difference between getting into someone's head like Tito Ortiz and getting drunk and kicking down doors.

It would be cool if you get into their head and actually beat them. IMO he has a decent record, but he is far from a "great" fighter.

Taekwondo is great defense.

for all it's short comings that is very true, I took it for 6 ears on and off and my ability to see something coming at me and intercept it is pretty damn good. It really stresses reflex and hand/eye coordination. But their attack have little value, unless you end up fighting Van Damn or something.
