So we all know about Katy Perry's hit "I Kissed a Girl". I remember a discussion about her in a thread not too long ago, but I'm gonna bring her back up for discussion.

So it's nothing new that looks and money are far more important than talent in today's music industry, but it's still just frustrating to watch it happen so often while one or two skilled and devoted artists a year at the most leak through. There are a few artists that go to the open mic nights around here that can put on a downright amazing show with nothing but a guitar and their voice, but they'll probably never even get a shot at the fame people with the looks and money get to.

Her voice doesn't sound natural at all, but instead like she's singing along with her own computer generated voice from the record and trying to match it. That leads me to the conclusion that she isn't dedicated to the career of her choice(singing) that she is now famous for. She's obviously having fun and doesn't look nervous at all, so her voice more than likely isn't off because of stage fright. My main point here is that she pursued a career in music without even finding her own voice. Even if your voice isn't very good, you can still find your limits and not constantly fall out of those boundaries. It pisses me off that she had her sugar daddy dump millions of dollars into something it seems she doesn't deserve.

Here's one of the clips that got me onto this.

For the record no, I am not a professional musician or pursuing a career of the like. I just like to judge and still want to get under that dress^_^

If you agree, what other artists do you know like this? If you disagree, why?

oh i hate it when this shit happens,,one normal ass person gets famous because of computer edited voice, its bullshit, why dont the people with real raw talent ever get the helpout?!

Colbie Caillat and her song "Bubbly" is along the same lines for me. I would tear that thing up, but with the exception of that song, there isn't much else working for her.

welcome to corporate america.

Katy obviously knew someone who knew someone who.....

some higher-up decided that they could market her. She is nothing more than a 'product' to them.

real musicians never get a break, and when they do, it's an indy label.

katy perry will be a fad that lasts for 2 years until the next slut ass product becomes available.

Free Music: Sixty-Nine One Hit Wonders from the 90's by 90s_One_Hit_Wonders - Rhapsody Online

when's the last time you heard anything from these guys?

they were hot shit in their day... and it lasted until they were replaced with something else.

real bands never die or stop getting air play.

i hear alice in chains, nirvana, soundgarden, led zeppellin, pink floyd, etc etc all the time on the radio... and of them are dead, the other half are broken up and haven't been together as a band in years.

Well... She's fun to look at. I don't see too much talent though.

Anyone ever seen Fall Out Boy on any live MTV shows or anything? Same thing. They sound like I do when I run out of breath and trying to sing. I big part of singing live is to learn how to control your lungs and get used to walking, running, what have you while singing and hitting the right notes.

I like this song okay, mostly just the tune, but she makes me want to jump on stage and shove the stupid flower in her hair down her fucking throat. I could sing better than that. Jesus. It just got worse, and worse, and worse, and worse, the more I listened to it.

Record companies arent intrested in making people famous. They just want to make money, & as soon as something catchier comes allong you get kicked to the curb.

Kinda like what will happen to Katy Perry, haha

Damn, yeah. Brian fucking nailed it lol. /thread.

Maybe Hannah is the girl she kissed?

By far, Blanco. It's not limited to the music industry when it comes to spoiled punks.

That Colbie chick's music makes me angry, so I stay far away from it =P

Yeah, I have heard Fall Out Boy live on youtube and they also suck. I gotta say though, their music just sucks in general imo.

Sorry, but didn't feel like quoting lol.

Damn, HS sponsoring Haterade now? LOL...

Who you know > what you know...

Just look at Nick and Brooke Hogan, all of Rev Run's kids, Lindsey Lohan's sister, Ashley Simpson, ect... I can go on for days lol lol.

Let's not forget Ozzy's daughter. Didn't she have a song that was absolutely horrible? Like B16RacerN2NR said, it's not what you know, it's who.

Well, my good friend's cousin is the guitarist for Cartel.....woo hoo. I hate that band. But she gets backstage and into Warped Tour for free, so it don't matter I guess.

Idk Blanco, the milf look is totally in. She is good, but I'd like to hear more power like in Amy Lee's live performances.

The newest deserving(imo, of course) artists that made it big that I can think of would have to be the band "Paramore". I'm not a huge fan of their style, but I think they tear it the fuck up. Hayley Williams is a powerhouse and while the guitarists typically play some mediocre things in drop D tuning, they arrange it with taste. The drummer also knows when and when not to add blast beats unlike most newer rock bands. Well, I guess they're more along the lines of pop-rock.

Kelly Osborne would not have gotten anywhere if not for the fact that her DNA is half drugged Black Sabbath ogre material.

Something important to remember :

Fame = Popularity. Popularity = appealing to lowest common denominator. That said, look around your workplace (Michael Bolton) or school (what the fuck ever the kids are listening to at the ragu festival)

Thusly, if you wish to be "famous" and "popular" you're not appealing to afficionados, you're appealing to assholes. If anyone here has a 50 cent album in their possession, hang your head in shame.

Finally, and it pains me to bring about Tough Celerity Love to Kanned - "I kissed a girl" is a Jill Sobule song. And when we meet, I'm going to punch you in the eyebrow for creditting that Katy hussy with it :)

Also, before you lose hope in mankind, look at pictures of Amy Lee without makeup on. She's like 44. I went through this argument with my goth honey, who said "I look like her" and I said "You better hope not"

Washing out a photo does wonders to ugly people. Believe me, I used to be in the graphic design / modelling industry. EVERY picture you see of EVERY PERSON is so heavily doctored that you'll never look at the world the same again.

Ragu festival...

Fucking great.

Adam Sandler for the win.

50 Cent is pretty damn good lyricist. Not the best but i'd say top 20 of all time. His character might not get any street cred but as far as being a rapper, he's pretty good. I'd like to hear your thoughts on why you don't think so and I don't want to hear biased bullshit either...
