hey, i race a 90 civic stock car and am looking for the best transmission to run. we run un second gear till the rev limiter kicks in,90-100 km, this year so far i ran a 91 si tras. and had to shift to third because the rev lim licked in half way down the backstretch, any suggestions on the best trans [civic or integra] for the highest second gear?.. must be cable ,, i was told there was a early d series tegra with a second gear of 110 km...thats what i'm lookin for 100-110 with out kissin the limiter..also any sugestions for more power out of a D15 block tuned port 88-91 would be greatly appreciated..must appear stock. inside,.. not so much...any ideas?...THANKS!!! GREAT SITE!!

why not look past the tranny and change rims size,we had a crx at our local track tht would hit limiter on the straights and he changed from 14's to 15' and hes all good now

we have to have everything stock..13'' 175 70.. is the common tire...they do allow 185 ;13 's but they are hard to come by.another track we go to allows 14 's and 15's but not our local track..

a 88-91 USDM CRX/Civic DX transmission with the 3.88 final drive would give you about a 9.5% increase in mph versus rpm over the Si 4.25 final drive - another option would be the 88-89 CRX HF 5-speed or Civic STD 4-speed with the Si final drive in it - that would give you almost a 15% increase - of course, any of these will hurt your acceleration off the corners

what ECU do you have? do they allow the ECU to be chipped to raise the fuel cut-off?

a stock ecu..you're not suppose to alter them but i'm sure others have it done..they can't really detect it..how much will that help?i have seen somthing called real preformance chip on e;bay its a little black box that sends different messages to your computer, says it saves fuel and increases hp..will this help me?...there is evidence and rumors of others at the track using these..do they work....?..thanks for your advise!..

we try to keep it wide open in second, and ride the brakes to slow up if needed....will a stage one clutch help me also?...i have a few races left this year, have missed the last 2 weeks due to time, and blown motors and broken parts , so i'm basicly gaining parts info on next year , and using the rest of the year as a test session, have a motor to last the last few races, and want to find the right trans to run for next week..over the winter i'll be building a fast 1.5 i hope to gather the info to do that..been told a few suggestions already...1.6 head..bigger pistons..bigger fuel pump.....all has to be hard to detect and must look like a stock 1.5 any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. looks like this is the place for it...again..thanks...

i have a 88 si tranny in my hatch and it work damn good and the rpms climb real fast to the only thing with a 88 tranny is the splines are diffrent from a 89 and up tranny the 88 has 21 splines and the 89 has 20.

Is it a dual point motor? If so, do the multi point conversion, Si cam, and DOHC ZC pistons to bump the compression up.

can't use multiport.has to be dual point , i can use an si cam? and those pistons..will i have to boar it out?

i know 14's came with the s.i. we are only allowed stock 1.5 civic dx or cx no sport models'{ S.I/ or CRX]so its 13''

others have put second from a four speed, but you have to have a hot motor to make it worth while...i may do this later..if i build a motor with more HP, for now looks like i'm looking for a 89 crx or dx trans

Does that go for just tires and rims, or is that everything on the car? For example, can you do the DPFI-MPFI swap, or is that outside of their rules?

everything..that can be detected in tech...they arn;t that thorough, everything is ''supposed '' to be stock...but you know what they say ..it ain;t cheating unless you get caught..no multi port...duel port only.

for power on something that needs to appear stock, i'd rebuild and up the compression. if you're scared they'll find forged pistons, they're definitely going to discover an aftermarket cam (or in this case a Si cam.)

to make that car faster than it is now, you need to break their rules and hope to not get caught. or learn to drive more effectively. changing the gearing so you can knock off just one shift will probably be counter-productive, as the trans will multiply torque less at all times. and during that shift you're still traveling at 90km/h, even if the shift took a full second, that's not how much is going to be taken off your lap time.

i'd be willing to bet that with the lower gearing (numerically, "taller" physically) you'll turn worse lap times. that motor doesn't have the torque required to pull you around after that 1-2 shift and the revs drop an extra 800rpm.

so putting an si cam..zc pistons, and a 1.6 head.plained with new valves, will i need a bigger fuel pump, and better injectors?....this is all new to me...building an engine,,its the only thing i haven't tackled yet..i'm a carpenter...i have taught myself everything else, like pullin the motor, suspension parts, but runnin stock motors just won't cut it when other guys are doing the same things i'm gonna do...they are winning i am runnin midpack...up front is alot funner.. tech guys don't have time to check too deep..if it looks stock.and sounds stock.as far as the engine...its good......they usually don't even check compression...
