i have an 89 ef hatch that we swapped a d16z6 motor and trans into. the axles keep poping out. i used the axles from the 95 civic the motor came from( what i was told). do i need to use stock axles to keep them from poping out again? any help would be greatly appreciated
 
You'll need 88-90 teg axles. The axles from the 95 eg have a different spline count and diameter size from your EF hubs. In all theory they "should" not work at all, let alone pop out. If you do a search you will find detailed info on axles.

out of curiosity...Did you go with a cable to hydro conversion kit?
 
the trans is still a cable...why would I need axles from an integra? I bought the car with the motor and trans in it....all was told was need to put axles in which I have done but they popped out..i know the motor is from a 95 but not for sure on trans.
 
if your still using the stock ef tranny use your stock axles
 
what axles did you put in it? Like injen stated, if its an ef cable tranny you just need stock ef axles. Either way, at this point find the mentioned axles.
 
either way if you look at it if its a cable d series tranny and its a 5 speed its most probably gonna be the stock tranny and all you have to do is go buy stock axles for your year model. 92 and up is hydro tranny.
 
one more question will the hubs be the same? i know the car was a standard hatch, will the 91 dx axles still work or will i need to change the hubs? im headed to a junk yard tomorrow to get the last few parts i need and if i need the hubs great time to get them.
 
you shouldnt need the hubs the only thing i think is diff between the std and dx is the dx only comes with one mirrior and the std comes with 2 so yea.

DX/Si/LX/EX axles won't work with STD hubs - you either need STD axles or you need to swap the knuckles/hubs for DX/Si/LX and use DX/Si/LX/EX axles
 
if the hubs are still the stock hubs for a 4 speed. then i will have to swap them for the dx hubs. correct me if im wrong but arnt the std hubs 23 spline and the dx are 26. so being that the dx trans would be 26 spline.
 
It is the hub side you should be concerned with. Just keep it easy, find axles for your model car. STD. EF civic.
 
I have been really busy lately but got my problem figured out. The standard 4 speed axles wouldnt work,because of the trans. So i got axles from a dx and had to swap the hubs from a dx also. thanks for the info jlicrx. now if i could just figure out what size of injectors to run i would be happy.
