Is it possible to boost a b18b1 stock engine? what mods should be done without tearing into the block or head? how much boost can I push? I am not looking for extreme hp gains. I do expect, however, about 30-50 hp. Do i need to upgrade the injectors and fuel rail? if so, to what floww rate or CC? I just need the specifics for about 7-10 lbs of boost. nothing more than that is neccessary. Will i need to upgrade the ignition? if so, what is recommended? also, what FMU is recommended? and help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

But research does...

Don't expect to come on here and be fed information with a silver spoon. Research things like the rest of us...

I agree but I haven't seen anything that specifies how much boost I can push on a stock block. Every thread that I have read involves opening up the block.

IIRC, a bone stock LS can push about 15 psi before it takes from the integrity of the motor. But its been a long time since I have looked into it and could be wrong. It also depends on what type/size turbo you are going to use, and other things. Your question is, at best, vague without more information.

Garrett T25 turbo, from a nissan SR20DET. small turbo. It should max out before or right at the peak powerband of the b18b. My main goal is to avoid as much lag as possible. I am just trying for useable power.

Dont worry about your boost levels. Focus on a power output then boost until you get to that level. I say dont go over 300 horse on stock everything, but there are ppl who push into the 400's. I say 300 horse assuming youve got fresh bearings, rings, fastners, and all like that. In the long run, everything depends on the condition of the motor. At the very least you should get ARP hardware, OEM Honda bearings, and OEM Honda gaskets. At that point you wont have any problems with boostin to about 300 horse. And dont skimp on the tune. A bad tune will give you an expensive boat anchor in a hurry.

I am looking to attain some sort of boost without breaking into the engine. no new seals. not new rings, cylinder walls probably a little scratched. motor with 62000 miles on it. I am not looking for anything close to 300 hp. more like 180-240.

In your blog you use the word reliably, if your not willing to replace anything on the motor you have, and you want reliability, then dont boost it at all. If your actually not worried about reliability too much then Id say keep it right at 200 horse or less. But, like I said earlier, the amount of power any engine can handle is dependent on how worn its parts are. With that said, no 2 engines are alike, so yours may handle the extra power ok, or it may not.

Fair enough. I drive this as my daily driver. So I do need some sort of reliability behind it, thus, the low expectations of a turbo. When this engine kicks the bucket i will get a new engine and later on a JRSC for it. But that is much later down the road. I am just looking to have a little more kick from my LS.

62k miles is nothing. Boost away at 7 psi. Get a real good tune from whatever tuner uses hondata or something similar. My setup pushes what you want plus I get 30 mpg :)
For injectors 440 cc should be plenty.
Fuel rail should be fine.
You might want to get colder plugs, but if your tuner is worth a damn he'll know what plugs to go with.
A big intake filter is a must. Keeps the turbine from getting damaged
A full 3 inch exhaust does wonders as well.
Your ignition can handle way more than your goal so leave it alone.

I'm looking for more or less the same thing on my
94 accord lx.
I know I changed my head gasket, timing belt, water pump and all that nonsense
about a year at most ago and I don't really push it as my suspension's runnin old.
Do you think I would be able to pull about 9psi without messing up my motor??
and if I could how reliable would it be because it is my DD.

That pretty much answered every question I had. Thanks. I do have one last question. What kind of short shifter would I throw in there? shorty from an integra or civic?
