How Hard Is It To Replace A Spun Rod Bearing, Is It Something I Could Attempt With Out A Machine Shop, I Mean Allot Of Experience With Motors But Nothing This In Dept.

Nope, spinning a rod bearing messes up the rod or the crank shaft, usually causing scarring/scratches/burn marks. You could take it apart and visually inspect it, but if you know its spun, its more than likely done its damage.
 
you will have to replace the crank shaft and need new rod bearings.

Sometimes... nay... MOST of the time this is the case. Only way to know what needs to be done is to dive into it.

It is possible that you could get away with just new bearings. If you want drop the pan, and knock off that rod from the crank. Mic it and check the surface. Also check the rod. I would talk to a engine machine shop to know what exactly to look for. If everything is ok, you could slap on a new bearing and be done without pulling the head.

But like I said, that is almost never the case, usually because something caused the bearing to spin in the first place. If the crank is damaged, just have it machined down 10 or 20 thou, and install the corresponding bearings. Rods can be checked to and repaired/replaced as needed.
 
If you don't recondition the rod, the next bearing will spin too.

I always figured that depended on how exactly the bearing spun. I've never had one, but I assumed that the rod might not always be damaged.
 
ok its my friends old y7 block and he ran it low on oil, so can i get d16a1 integra DOHC crank and rod+pistons, ive heard something about it and it will give me more compression and power, if not what all d-series engine can i get a Crank/Rod/Pistons from that will go in with no problem
 
I just did some poking around, and it looks like depending on how bad it spun, it is possible to get away without replacing the rod.

Why not just have yours repaired instead of replacing with all of the same stuff
 
true yeah i got some other y7 rods from a block i tore down awhile back that had low ass mile so can i just use one of those rods, and just get the journal bore back to spec's and then replace the bearing. BY THE WAY DOES ANYONE KNOW THE JOURNAL BORE SPEC'S FOR Y7'S
 
They would have them in a Repair Manual. If they are out of spec, you can't "bring" them back into spec... you have to have the crank turned down smaller and install bearings for that size.
 
ok ill try to find the spec, so where can i get bearing that are semi-cheap and do i just get standard bearings
 
Well you need to know if the crank is damaged. They make std, and .010, .020, and so on undersized. I think you can get up to .040, but you would have to check. STD is obviously for ungrounded cranks, but if you need to have your turned, you will need at least .010.

So what, used std. ACL bearings on mine, runs fine. Every other car out there does it the other way. If he spun a bearing then he is probably going have the crank turned anyways, so he might as well just install at least 1 new .010 bearing, or get them all turned and get all .010 bearings.
 
Oh, and I talked to my machinist about installing std acl sizes over the honda OEM stuff, and he said that it doesn't make a difference. He said that it wasn't even really nessisary to plastigauge either if I'm just swaping out the OEM honda for STD rod and crank without turning.
 
.0001" is nothing. I seriously doubt that you will have any issues doing the way I suggested. Every SB and BB chevy does it that way... and small block chevys run forever.

and you're right, these aren't Chevys.

If you give the shop your rods and bearings, they can just machine the crank the based on the exact size of each bearing, and then you can get your fit that way too.


Oh, and doing a burnout with a front wheel drive is like banging your sister...

It's not cool whether your doing it or just watching it.
