eatin aint cheatin
hey guys, im new here and i was wondering if its worth puting aftermarket parts on a 1.5 hf engine. i dont have enuff $ for a swap but if the hf isnt worth it then i will have to save some. any imput will help. anyone with a hf thats fixed up, how is it? how fast does it run?

I would have to say no, I believe the HF engine is an 8 valve engine. getting any reasonable performance out of that engine would probably cost at least as much as a swap. If you have to I would go with and intake and exhaust not sure there will be much gain but it might make you feel better and possibly get better gas mileage.

Great car btw, lol.

Well considering I also own an HF, I would say that you are out of your mind if you are trying to upgrade the D15B6. Granted you can make good power even with 8 valves, The engine is not at all built for power. The intake is much smaller, the exhaust is tiny. the valves are tiny, the transmission sucks for acceleration. Not to mention the rods are made of toothpicks.

So just enjoy it as the little fuel efficient car that honda designed it to be. Oh, btw, what kind of gas mileage are you getting out of yours. I only get 45ish with mine, but it seems a little low, because I drive it like a grandma and almost never shift past the shift light.

Oh, and mine has a Megan Racing header on it, and a aluminum flywheel, and aluminum underdrive, and AEM cam gear. Cars slow as balls.

HFs have a shift light?

i've had an Si and a DX, neither had/have one (thank god - those are annoying).

I'm not sure if some do, of if they all do, but mine does.

I actually liked having mine, because it tells you when to shift go get the best mileage. It tells you to shift at way different rpms than I would have ever expected. Plus, everyone that rides in it thinks it's sweet!!

I could see though why it would be annoying, because if you really didn't care the dang thing would be on 99% of the time.

can you tell me what mileage your hf gets?

i have a relatively chaep soultion to your slowness you can find a 1.6 head and intake manifold exhaust manifod and ecu and this thing will really wake up these parts with a new head gasket and all should only cost you about 300. you can also use a 92-95 1.5 head whis is the same as the old 1.6 heads if you use the newere head and intake yo will need to get rid if the injector reistor box or run the obd0 injectors you will still need a ecu from a 1.6l si crk or hatch hope this info helps

i have the original dash and everything on my 91 hf, mine doesnt have the shift light.
when does it tell u to shift in 1st 2nd third fourth? im just curious

Yeah, I think that it uses the rpm, speed, and maybe throttle position to calculate what gear you should be in. When it thinks that you should be in a lower gear, it comes on.

I'm not sure what gas mil. i get. ive only had the car for 3 months now so i havent had time to check it. i know it only take $30 to fill up and it last me 2 weeks and i drive it to work and back every day which is about 10 miles a day. it has si rims and is lowered 2 in. from the old owner. and the motor has been rebiult. its slow in 1st and 2nd but from 3rd and up its got a little speed.

i dont know what kinda mi. i get. i have only had the car for 3 months. it has si rims and is lowered 2 in. the motor has been rebuilt and in 1st and 2nd its slow but from 3rd on up it has a little speed. it has no cat. and a new 2 1/2 in catback that you can only hear when it revs past 3000 and i like that. it doesnt sound like a lawnmower. it has a deep sound.

IDK, I have the same setup, Megan Racing Header w/ 2.5" catback. I don't like the sound that much, too ricey. Not like my 96 Accord which is decently loud, but has really good low tone.

I'm not looking for mileage, I'm looking for speed. I want it to make a little impression.

How much do you wanna spend. Give us a dollar amount and we can get you closer to 'bang' for your buck

al flywheel

mine was $140 on ebay... I don't know if they are that cheap anymore. I got the 7lb Fidanza

my 91 hf has a tenrai full exhaust system with magnaflo custom cat. sounds fuc*!ng amazing. sounds like a wrx w/out the silencer but louder. I drive with the silencer on and sounds the same but not as loud. I prefer all u assholes to put a silencer on anything bigger than 2in and up. To me its very annoying and really is no point to being so loud other than to get attention. performance is the same with the silencer on.

I didn't have a choice, 2.5" was what I had on the parts car. I don't know what you are complaining about, it's not all that loud at all.
